Anyone know the distance Comet Holmes was from Earth when it exploded?

    It didn't explode. It did what comets do, which is becoming brighter due to outgassing. It's about 150 million miles away. (Did I say kilometres?)

    Holmes in it's present orbit around the Sun never gets closer to the Sun than two A.U. or 186 million miles. Because the outburst occurred after it's recent perihelion, it was some 1.6 A.U from us, or 150 million miles away.

    I believe it was about 145 million miles from Earth at the time.
