Can I choose my job specialty after Basic Training?
The Army is the only service that offers a guaranteed job (MOS) to everyone. The Army has no such thing as an "open" or "undesignated" enlistment.
However, the MOS's (jobs) offered to you, might not be the one(s) you wanted. It depends upon your qualifications and what jobs have current/projected openings. If the job you want is not available, your only choices are to choose a different job, or not enlist.
I am looking for opinions and experiences.

Yes however once you get in you can sometimes change your MOS or even cross train in a job that is related to yours.
That is one reason why I liked the Army over other services I got to pick my job.

Unfortunately, the Army does not have a position like bosun's mate where you can enlist and choose a specialty after some experience. The Army recruits to fill positions, so you need to monitor for awhile, or choose something less than your first choice.

So, what's the downside?
Figure out what ya wanna do based on the available options and make the decision.
The indecisive choices of the other services is merely a choice to keep the option of hating someone else's decision about your life instead of taking responsibility for your own decision.

you certainly could have a activity till now you even would be allowed to pass to common preparation. All of it relatively is achieved at your community MEPS (defense force front and Processing Station). as quickly as you have your activity, they'll assign you a typical preparation date which will coincide consisting of your AIT date.
