The Coast Guard is the smallest military just because lack of jobs..The Navy,Army,Marines,Air Force are always being filled at a much demanding rate. Coast Guard boot camp is about 8 weeks long, its in Cape May,NJ. You have to jump off a platform, tread water for like 5 minutes and swim about 100 yards. You have to do 29 pushups in a minute for male, and 38 sit-ups in a minute also,1.5 mile run in 12:51. E-1 pay is 1,203.90 every 15 days.

Lowest rank is E1 which is just a boot camp pay grade. It pays $1,592.01 a month as of 2017 just like every other branch of the military. It is the smallest branch because it just doesn't need as many people as the other branches to accomplish its missions. It is more difficult to get in to because of its small size. It gets lots of applicants but has fewer spaces to fill. These few open spots are filled with the most qualified applicants with the highest ASVAB scores. Boot camp for every branch will be of comparable difficulty, they are all physically and mentally challenging. PT test requirements are 12:51 mile and a half, 28 pushups in 1 minute, 38 situps in one minute, as well as a swim test and sit and reach requirement. The PT test isn't the most physically demanding part though. The hard part is the workouts that the company commanders put you through.
