Does anybody here give/receive to/from spouse/girlfriend a cookbook as a birthday gift?

To those who give - what's your intention

To those who received - what do you think or feel. what's your reaction

For me it's all about intentions

Update:

some people [especially who has little interest in cooking or don't know how to cook] consider the gift as an insult and say ' you think i don't know how to cook ah?'

Moral of the story: Give the right gift to the right person

I buy myself cookbooks.. If you want to give someone a cookbook as a birthday present, give it to me Bo_$$. I'll appreciate it very much.. I'm the right person for cookbooks.

I love cooking and will cook forever..

at everybirthday or holiday I always make sure a gift to my fiance includes a cookbook.

He is a chef with a huge passion for food so I like to shop around for cook books on obscure and interesting cuisines that he could look at and use to broaden his cullinary prowess!

Also I have received a lot of cookbooks myself, most recently a friend brought me back a vegan cookbook from a health spa he was at. He got it for me because I am allergic to a lot of foods and often find it hard to think of foods to make. It is a lovely gesture I always love receiving interesting cookbooks (the most interesting I ever received was a Hari Krishna cookbook... it was fantastic)

I might because my wife loves cookbooks. It would have to be something different and interesting to her, and she has so many I can't know what she doesn't have. If it were a girlfriend or if we'd only been married a few years I might -- just because she loves them. Now to avoid it sounding like "here, make me something" or "because you can't cook" I might open the book first and try to give it to here over a dinner I made with the recipes.

I got this great book called the Cake Bible for my birthday once. I love it. Now for every holiday I make a cake or two for dessert for the family. They love it too : )

I think that if the person recieving the cookbook enjoys cooking/baking and likes trying out new recipes it would be ok to give them one.

I never try this before. Last time when I was study at US I bought a cook book for my self. Since I am sick of my cooking, I need to learn more so that I don't have to keep eating same cooking over and over again.

Since my intention of buying a cook book for my self is to improve. If you received one it might be an encouragement for your cooking. Take it as a complement.

I've never received a cookbook from anyone, but I'd love to.. Dont think anyone really knows I enjoy cooking, so, I guess thats the problem, haha..

I dont usually give books or clothes or similar things to anyone, unless I know for sure their interested in it.. I'd feel bad to know a book or shirt that I bought for them is being regifted, lol..

But if I ever give a cookbook to someone, they better make me something in it, lmao...

I got many cookbooks from friends, relatives, etc. Apparently all these people seems to know that I like to read ONLY cos I don't cook at all.

How do I feel??? Maybe this is a way for them to encourage me to do cooking at home (HAHAHA)
