Why do people saying Catholicism isn't Christianity?

Everyclass I take, I always here, Christians and Catholics, when they mean to say Protestants and Catholics, I would assume, well that leaves out Orthodoxy. I'm in college, and I've heard this since like seventh grade, why do people keep thinking that Protestantism is Christianity, and everything else is different. I'm a Protestant by the way. Let's not leave out our history, the three main brances of Christianity are Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Protestantism. Why do I keep hearing that Catholics aren't Christians?

    well as a Catholic,

    when they say this it hurts so much. A Christian is those who believe in Christ our Lord. Catholics are Christians no matter what others say. Our church is based on the Divine Trinity. (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) who is only one God. many Christian Groups believe that Catholics worship Mary and the Saints. But that is dead false. they are our role models. when they say this i think that they are crazy or i just ignore them!

    i hope this helps! and God bless u!

    The reason we have Orthodoxy and Protestantism is because earlier Christians saw serious problems with Catholicism. For about a thousand years we only had one church-the Roman Catholic church. Any one who tried to start another church was executed by the Catholic church 'post haste. That 'thousand years' is not called the "Dark Ages" for nothing. The Catholic church does have a horrible history, right on up to today. There is a tremendous amount of literature on this subject-some false, but most accurate. Research it yourself. If you are honest about it, you will change your mind.

    People are idiots. Christianity is any religion that believes in Jesus Christ as Savior. So Catholicism is a form of Christianity just like Protestants and all the other religions out there. Catholicism is the first true Christian religion by the way...

    I think what you're talking about is Non-Denominational Christians - most people call them Christians for short, or their "religion" (although they don't technically have one) Christian for short. The whole point of NDCs is that they don't have a religion but they believe in Christ. So when you hear "Christian" and talk about differences people are actually talking about Non-Denominational Christians.

    "By the good judgment of claiming that Catholicism isn't real Christianity you're announcing that Christianity wasn't centered till one million,four hundred years after Christ died." Huh?? What "good judgment" brings you to that end??

    I believe Catholics are Christians because they worship and claim the deity of Jesus. What are stumbling blocks is that many of its beliefs are man made, not the Bible. Take for instance, The worship ping of Mary along with her statue, which God warns against idolatry. Furthermore, according to the Bible the priests do not have to remain celibate to preach. Paul said that He would rather be single so that he would have more time to share the gospel. That passage was not meant that all Priests should be celibate. You see, it's not right to restrict its Priests to remain single. And, now what do we have, but a history of child molesting and rape by Catholic Priests. Millons of dollars in law suits to boot. When I first heard that the church does not allow divorcees to partake in Holy Communion and not allowed to re-marry in the church. I was really shocked, yet the church will take their money. Very odd. There are lots of man made precepts in the Catholic Church, but I think what saves them are its core Christian beliefs.

    They left the faith that's why. It is God who would define who is Christ like, as that is why Christians are called such. I was a Catholic until I began reading the scriptures and what Jesus had to say to the religious Jews who heard the Laws of God right from his very presents. I found that as a Catholic I was practicing something man-made and not scripturally based.

    Just look at the following scriptures from the first Pope Peter;

    I Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

    19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

    20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

    21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

    22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

    23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

    24 ¶ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

    25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

    Peter tells us that we purify ourselves with the truth and goes on to tell us that truth comes from the incorruptable Word of God and that it lasts forever and comes from the gospel he was preaching. If it lasts forever why does the Pope have the right to change it. He doesn't.

    Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works (Galatians 1). All false gospels lead to eternal hell.

    Therefore, catholicism is not Christianity. Catholics are not the "first Christians". The first Christians were all Jews that believed fundamentalist doctrine. Catholicism didn't exist until 300 years later, and catholicism is a Babylonian pagan cult.

    There are more than three, there are about seven branches of Christianity, as commonly defined

    Catholic

    Orthodox

    Protestant

    Restorative

    Assyrian (Chaldean)

    Coptic

    I am missing one, aren't I... I forgot it
