Clutter decorating?

I have had my condo for sale. Realtors tell me I have to put up all the things I love to look at. They call it cluuter decorating. I have been in alot of homes that have the clutter look they are talking about. Even on T.V. So my question is, why do I have to get rid of my clutter? It is part of who I am, and it's not like I have cobwebs and cauldrons smoking in the place. It is not creepy. It's me.

Update:

O.K. I can see none knows what I am talking about. You morons don't have imagination and can't see past your nose. I miss my clutter. I have had it stored for months now and I miss it. So, guess I don't want to sell. I am not the one that is missing out. And I could give a dam if they want to buy it or not. They want to throw me out of my own house and to add insult to injury, they want me to get lost and take my mutt with me. I love my mutt, my clutter, and I miss all of it. Sooooooo, guess it's your loss , not mine, cause I could give a hoot!

I agree with alot of what the other folks have said. Sadly enough people don't have much imagination and they can't see beyond your things to picture what their things will look like in a home they are buying. It is about the bigger picture........ meaning ... what are you willing to scarfice to sell your lovely condo? How far are you willing to go to get the job done? What is more important at this point ... putting your clutter in storage and making it as close to a model home look as possiable or having your stuff that is all about you to see? You might try it for a couple of months to see how it goes andif you don't think it is making a difference you can always haul it all back. The idea I think sellers are trying to get across is how big is the place? Buyers for some reason can not see their things in a place that has you written all over it. Or a big pile of your clutter boxed up setting everywhere!

It is not nothing against you or your clutter ... it is about them and selling your condo! You can always put back all your stuff in the next place you buy. Make sure it is where you want to be so, you don't gota go through this again. You could also sell whatever you KNOW you are not going to be taking that will open up more space. I think SPACE is the key thing buyers look for! With your clutter these folks can not see this SPACE.

It is so sad but, true!

The clutter is all yours, but you’re not trying to sell you, you’re trying to sell your home to someone else. That buyer needs to be able to walk in and see themselves in your home, which is more difficult when they have a ton of stuff lying around.

The point is to depersonalize your home. And you are correct about other’s homes. It can be difficult for agents to approach the subject – they don’t want to insult sellers because they obviously like their stuff. Sellers can be resistant because, they like the junk. But this isn’t about you; it’s about your house. If you want to sell it, do little things like packing your clutter to make it more appealing to buyers.

Your beloved possessions are a personal choice for you. They may bring you joy, but for buyers, they could be at the very least, a distraction and at the most a personal affront to THEIR likes and dislikes. Your realtors want to appeal to the largest group of buyers out there and therefore, want to make your place more appealing to them. You want the prospective buyer to be able to envision themselves living there.

It's not about you, it's about the potential buyer. They need to see the space they are buying...Don't take it personally.

    Good luck on selling!
