Transportation here sucks, i gotta be honest with you...
Cabs are expensive and hard to get, buses are lousy and irregular.
Kuching actually has many nice places, like Cat Museum, Chinese Museum, than it's Sarawak Museum...
You can see Fort Margareta, go to shopping for souvenirs and pasar minngu, buy iban handcrafts at waterfront...
Best trips are outside the city, Bako national park, mount Santubung, Santubung beach, Damai beach, Pasir Pandak...
Then there is Sematan, Lundu, Bau...
Santubung also has a cultural village where you can se some cheap dance performance for tourist. Of course you must pay for entrance.
I highly recommend you to find some Ibans who have some home made tuak and get drunk with them. That's at least what i wuld do if i were you. There is also many nightclubs, contact me and i tell you which and where.
Try some local food like umai, ulat mulong, laksa Sarawak, kek lapis, and do like all west malaysians do, buy yourself some ikan terubuk masin at pasar minggu, you won't regret it.
i don't know you eat pork or not, Kuching also has some nice halal places to eat. I have to tell you unfortunately i don't know where to get halal ayam pansu in Kuching.
