I want to know what the writers of say.... The Office make in one year. Do they have good standing to complain about how much money they are getting?

"Waaa, waaa, I could be making 1.1 million instead of 1 million... waaa waaaa"

maybe you should be asking what studio executives make. all they do is exploit people with actual entertainment talent, and take most of the money while others do all the actual production.

also, keep in mind that 90% of the writers working in hollywood aren't working for hit shows like The Office, or 24, or Heroes. That's like saying all basketball players in the NBA have $50 million contracts.

Try going to www.unitedhollywood.com to find out what the real issues are. it's not making $1 million vs. making $1.1 million, it's more along the lines of writers not getting paid residuals for content delivered over the internet via iTunes or ad-supported streaming, and also whether reality show or animation writers should be covered by the WGA. Have you ever wondered why more and more crappy reality TV shows have been cropping up on TV in the last 6 years? It's because the studios don't have to treat reality show writers are covered by the WGA, and they know they can treat them like crap, giving them low salaries and no benefits, and reality writers won't strike. .

don't think writers are being greedy, it is extremely hard to get any kind of creative job in hollywood because it's such a risky business. the ones that actually succeed have to be really good, and even then they still don't get paid nearly as much as big name actors or studio executives.

    try doing some research.

The median income for members of the Writers Guild of America is $5000.00 (see http://www.thismodernworld.com/4069 for details and links). Writers in general aren't salaried, they are paid based upon what they produce. They get a flat fee for writing a screenplay, then they make residuals. Currently, if you purchase a movie on DVD, the screenwriter gets a whopping four cents. The WGA is asking that this be raised to eight cents. A writer may write one or two episodes per season of a TV series, or they may write one movie, and then not sell another script for years, if ever, so the pennies they make off of DVD sales may be what keeps them from having to work two jobs to make ends meet in LA. Right now, if you download a movie or TV show from iTunes, Amazon Unboxed, Netflicks or some other service, or if you watch it on an advertiser-supported stream, or if you watch a webisode of a TV show, the producer, director and actors get paid. The writer makes nothing. The WGA is asking that the screenwriter get paid when their product is distributed via the internet. Again, this isn't a lot of money they're asking for, but it helps the average writer to make ends meet when they are unable to sell scripts or only make a few thousand dollars off of writing one year.

Yes, you in general would. Also, there may be surely a necessity for creativity there. They look to thrive on remaking what has already been victorious. Personally, there hasn't been a exhibit from Hollywood or anywhere else which interested me mostly, considering the fact that approximately 1998. The strike will cross overlooked at my condominium.
