Doggie Diapers???

I have been having a heck of a time training my now 7mo old yorkie. I have tried everything... she just wont get it she even goes in her kennel. She goes in her bed where ever she wants. If she has to pee she will just go. So needless to say I have about had it so apparently I have been naive to the whole doggie diaper thing. I was just reading online tonight about them. This seems to be a heaven sent right now. I just was wondering if anyone has used them and if they work well. Any info really because all I can find is ad's no reviews. Thanx for your help!!! Ohhhhh and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!! XOXO

Update:

I have tried every potty training method. Praise, punishment, kennel, leash. I have researched it a lot. She will go outside she just wont tell me when she has to I take her out every 20 to 30mins. Now with the rain and cold weather (I live in WA) she wont go and will come right in and go. Its frustrating I have to clean my carpets every two weeks with Natures Miracle. So I would use them when she comes inside so there are no accidets.

Update 2:

Oh I have also used potty pads... I don't need info on potty training I just wanted to know if anyone had used them and has experience!!!

I would definitely give them a go - you need a break from all that pee and frustration. Then you can plan a way to get her potty trained.

As someone else said, make sure you get the vet to check her over in case it's something physical. Most dogs won't pee in their own bed - especially at 7 months. If it's not physical then keep her on a leash and with you in the house. If she even thinks of peeing take her outside. I know it sounds like hard work but it will pay off in the long run.

In some ways doggy diapers can help to potty train if they aren't too absorbent. I used belly bands on my dogs and they didn't like the feel of peeing in them. Inside the bands went on, outside the bands came off. Eventually they learned it felt much better to go outside. Also, when I caught one of them at it I would take him to the pee (not rub his nose in it) and say NO, then I would put him outside. It did work eventually.

Anyway, you must be at the end of your rope so get the diapers and just enjoy your girl for a bit without all the mess. You'll get there.

And Merry Christmas to you too!!

Doggie diapers are like a band-aid. They mask the problem but they don't teach your dog anything - except that it's okay to go whenever and wherever she pleases, so unless you want a dog that has to wear a diaper the rest of her life, I wouldn't go that route.

Small dogs are known for being a little stubborn in the potty training area, but they are certainly not hopeless. What you are going to have to do is get really serious and for the next little while watch that dog like a hawk and the minute she acts like she even wants to pee you haul her outside. When she pees outside act like you just won lottery and she has your check! Praise the daylights out of her. If she has an accident, you need to catch her in the act and give her a loud, firm NO! Then get her outside to show her where she SHOULD go.

It's going to take some dedication and serious work on your part but I think it's better than having to invest in doggy diapers for the rest of your dog's life.

We adopted a Chihuahua, and he has the same problem, more or less... We learned that the local Pet Smart pet store has free paper-training classes, and we are going to attend right after the holidays...( Additionally, they have the diapers/pads that you are interested in ).. Having your pet checked out by a vet is a very good idea... I just think these little dogs have a tendency to have this problem...Good luck, Merry Christmas !!!

Have the dog vetted to rule out physical problems.

Join an obedience class. The instructor will work with you.

If the dog was recently spayed, it may be spay-incontinence. Again, have the dog vetted for this possibility.

Diapers will absorb the pee, but will keep the dog wet and will not train it. Best to start with a vet and with a class.

Doggie diapers? I say no... try training it again...It just takes time...to tell you the truth you just need to spend plenty of time with her or him...respect each other and voila...My dog actually pees or poos next door but never by the house...I trained her that way.. I say either do your business elsewhere or don't do it at all...It's really funny..but all you really need to do is find a way where the two of you will get your business done without bothering each other..show your dog how...he or she will pick it up just fine....Good luck and take care..

the only female dogs i know who have to wear diapers are ones with health conditions that cause them to leak uncontrollably. you will have to change the diaper ever 3 hours, min. and your dog will need to be bathed and cleaned a lot more b/c they are really messy. you also have to put a very thick diaper rash lotion on the dog, which takes forever to clean out of the fur. it really isnt a heaven sent, just more work for you. and the dog will learn nothing from it.

Just try to put Pad 60cm x 60cm is enough for a small dog.

Put it always at the same place and take your yorkie whenever she wants. That's what we did to our small dog.

Now she is going alone and doing just in the middle of the pad.

I agree with some others, have her first checked to see if she does not have a Urinary Tract infection or Bladder infection.. My Bulldog started doing that and I just thought she was being stubborn, turned out she had infection.

    Good luck and be patient..

If you think picking up poop piles is bad, just wait until you change one of those diapers...The poop will have gotten all in the hair and everywhere....You would have to wash the pup, then the tub, then yourself, then probably vomit!

I would consult your vet first to rule out problems!

These are NOT for going to the bathroom in. They are for female dogs who are in season.
