If you could re-elect any former president,dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Good question.

I'd go with Jacques Chirac.

A man whom stood up for what he believed in even when he was highly criticized and was then the target of various American and British commentators supporting the decisions of Bush and Tony Blair.

Chirac emerged as a leading voice against the Bush administration's conduct towards Iraq. Despite intense US pressure, Chirac threatened to veto, at that given point, a resolution in the UN Security Council that would authorize the use of military force to rid Iraq of alleged weapons of mass destruction, and rallied other governments to his position.

"Iraq today does not represent an immediate threat that justifies an immediate war," Chirac said on March 18, 2003.

- We now know he was right.

Lincoln was a man that started a war that led to the death of 700,000+ AMERICANS in his war to "preserve the Union" (at all costs)

FDR... Did the same exact things that Hoover (meaning he spent like a madman on an economy that was going nowhere and actually made the depression worse and extended it until the 1950s) did only he was from a different party. He brought us into WWII and wanted the Japanese to attack the US by embargoing them... Yes.. "Great" Leaders indeed.. the ones that led to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Americans makes them great... wow people.. so blind.

Because hindsight has shown that they did the greatest amount of good for the largest amount of people, and had the balls to do it in the face of opposition from idiots.

Not sure... I guess I would like a mixture of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Just keep any Bill Clintons or Abraham Lincolns away from office - one of each was enough.

Policy wise if you ignore the short comings of generation that they lived in I would say Washington.

One of our founding fathers, to remind us about following the Constitution. But the closest thing to doing that is to elect Ron Paul as our president.

FDR. Bad times are coming and Roosevelt could handle anything. His policies and programs lifted the US out poverty and hopelessness. He rallied the nation to fight the fascists. He was the best innovator and decision maker we ever had, and that is the kind of talent we need now.
