How does this playoff format sound?

Im sick of hearing about College football needs a playoff in it's top divisions because everybody else has a playoff. So here is my version. There are 119 teams in the D1. There are 11 conferences and four indepentent teams. My format is simple. 16 team playoff. the 11 conference champs get and automatic bid with 5 at large bids. they playoffs start the week after the conference championships. the national championship game is to be played on New Years Day. to accomodate the playoof schedule you eliminate one non conference game from certain teams schedules so no to conflict with the conference championships. in case of a tie breaker in some conferences. the team with the greater strength of schedule wins the conference. thats my idea, there are probably better formats. but give me your opinion you asked for one.

Update:

Yeah it is Extensive. But after this year can you say there are just 4 teams who deserve a shot at the title? I dont like the idea playoff, my format may not be bulletproof. but it is feasible. Its based on the NCAA basketball tournament. Do you believe of the 65 teams in the tournament each them has a legit shot of winning the title? Plus you would have to eliminate games from the schedule to make room for a playoff. you can eliminate some teams extra bye weeks but it would still give teams limited time to prepare for their playoff opponent. With 16 teams it gives every conference a shot at the title. Even Hawaii.

Update 2:

trust me i dont want a playoff. its too confusing to have one and the BCS isnt perfect but it has been known to work aside from some human error. i just wanted to see how many playoff whiners would jump aboard. sounds like a lot of purists are making better cases. my plan isnt flawless but at least it gives all 119 teams a chance. first you win your conference that sures up 11 of the 16 spots. because granted Hawaii sucks. they did have a JV schedule. but the adage is you are going to please all of the people all of the time. but at least they get into a playoff and have shot. the same with the weaker conference champs. the other 5 spots go to the rest of the best. all im saying is if you include all 120 teams its only going to take at the most 5 playoff spots. assuming notre dame is one of those at large teams. because i seriously doubt from those weaker conference 2 teams get in.

Anything larger than a 2 week playoff would never happen for one simple reason. MONEY. There is too much money that goes with the bowl system that it will never go away. Get rid of the BCS system all together, play the old schedule of bowl games (Rose Bowl is ALWAYS Big 10 #1 vs Pac 10 #1, etc.) then play the top 4. If the most respected coaches and sports writers in the nation don't think you're a top 4 team, you don't deserve to be in the conversation. Let's look at Hawaii real quick. Their best victory of the season was against Boise State, who just lost to EASTERN CAROLINA in a bowl game. That screams strength of schedule problem. Just because you run the table against the Pop Warner all stars doesn't mean you're any good.

Source(s): I think they should just stick to the same old system. I love being able to talk about college football year round.

That playoff format would work out perfectly as long as it does not interfere with the NFL. Oh and there are actually 120 teams in D-I FBS (formerly I-A) not 119 as Western Kentucky had to move its football program up from the D-I FCS (formerly I-AA) level to meet Title IX requirements. Also D-I FCS is going to add a twelfth game starting next season so dropping a game would not make sense.

Already tried that chrism and it does not work as it only has the teams that are ranked in the Top 25. Where are the C-USA champs, MAC champs, and Sun Belt champs in on this? I only see eight conference champions out of the eleven conferences that are in D-I FBS (formerly I-A).

It is not Hawaii's fault that they had such a weak schedule this year. They tried to schedule games against big schools but they all either paid a certain amount of money to postpone the game (Michigan State did this) or opted out of playing the Warriors to play other teams and in Michigan's case lose to them.

I just think its too extensive. The simple way would be to just add a plus one. 4 and 1 play eachother and 2-3 play eachother and the winners play for the championship. In your plan, there would be too many undeserving teams getting a chance to win it. It would take the meaning out of the regular season. I like the regular season the way it is. It makes you bring it every week, and if you don't, you lose your shot. I dont like the possibilty of letting teams get hot at the end of the year to make a run. I like the idea of rewarding teams for sustained success throughout the season.

upload 2 communities. ideally in Asia. we are nonetheless residing interior the Jet age are not we. the eastern and Taiwanese are nuts approximately baseball and could desire to probable be triumphant at present. So enable's upload communities based in Tokyo and Taipei and function 2 leagues of sixteen communities. split each and each league into 2 divisions of 8 communities. Then we would have 4 genuine divisional champs interior the playoffs. forget approximately inter-league play yet save inter-divisional play. occasion: 8 video games performed against each and each group in the different branch equals sixty-4 video games and 14 video games against your guy or woman branch communities equals ninety 8 video games performed. Sixty-4 and ninety-8 equals a 162 video games time table. Ditch the DH and enable's all circulate back to taking part in genuine baseball.

that would be great as a fan, but your asking some of these kids who will make millions in the pro's to play maybe 10 or more games in there college career's risking injury. a plus 1 or maybe 2 system is the best we will ever get. besides if not for the controversy what would we have to talk about for the next 8 months.

Sounds great as long as it does not interfere with the nations ability to watch the Patriots. If that happenen then the plan would never fly. America would reject it like RIGHT NOW.

I would like it better if they played the superbowl in private and recorded it with various finishes that you could operate on play station or nintendo or something. why make so many people unhappy for the rest of the year with reality?
