Do you think it is rude to have a conversation on your cell phone at the same time you are conducting business

If you are an employee at a place of business and I came up to you to conduct business and the whole time I am making a purchase or whatever I am doing with you , I am on my cell phone holding a big conversation that I am sure you dont want to hear about. Is this rude to you?

Update:

To clarify, I was asking if you think it rude if the customer, (not employee) is using their cell phone while the employee is trying to help them.

i think it is very rude. I've worked in retail for two years, and nothing gets me more then when im ringing out a customer and they are on their cell phone. It only leaves room for misunderstandings between the cashier and customer. I'm sure it isn't too much to do to wait 5 minutes and call the person back.

I am a Leasing Specialist for an apartment community. I feel that if I am not answering the "Business" phone (in the office) when a person is in front of me, at my desk, then yes!!!

I definately feel that it is RUDE for a person to carry on a cell conversation, when a Human Being in front of you is trying to be of assistance.......

I do feel that cell conversations ~have gotten outta control...for most of the population(that obviously dont have a shred of Common Sense)!!!!!

Oh yes!! I think it is so rude. What ever happened talking with a client? Smiling and saying thank you? I totally agree. I think employee who do that make a BIG impact on the image of the entire company when that happens. That stands out when employees are not engaged with each client of a business. I think it's rude and employers such crack down on it BIG TIME!

Yes, of course this is inexcusably rude. Equally rude are customers who chat on the phone while an employee is trying to help them.

  • YES, YES, AND YES.

The store employee has an obligation to give you good service. He/she can't be certain if you know what you are doing if you are blabbing on the phone.

Besides if you aren't concentrating, you might get short changed and how would you prove it if you were on the phone?

Good grief, some people are so addicted to their phones it is becoming alarming.

    Hang up and pay attention.

Yes it is. If the phone call isn't very important or a non emergency, I feel that it can at least wait until you're done conducting business with me.

Yes very rude, you think that the salesclerk helping you isn't worth enough respect to conduct business with without chatting up you're friends at the same time.

If I were her, I would say to you:"Perhaps I can help you another time." and politely walk away.

Of course it is, but a customer is a customer so the employee pretty much has to put up with it.
