Our very verbal, very intelligent African Grey suddenly lost his voice?
He now sounds like someone with a bad case of larengites. Is there anything we can do?
Thank you for the answers. The problem is that the only avian vet in our area is on vacation.
The voice has been deteriating, but other than that the bird is just as active as allways, and we can see nothing wrong.
I would like to know if anyone has had the same experience and if there is any medication one can use?
It is summer in South Africa and keeping Voëlie warm is not a problem.
Thank you.

I would also say go to the vet. Remeber, birds hide illness, so if he is showing signs he has been sick for a while. You can lose your bird if you do not get him to an avian vet ASAP esp if he is showing other signs such as fluffed feathers or sitting at bottom of cage.

I'll be the third to say take your bird to the vet ASAP. It could be nothing, but as #2 said, they hide their illnesses until often it's too late. Also, I'd recommend you keep your bird warm and in a dark location until the vet appointment. Birds need warmth and dark, quiet areas to allow their bodies healing time. I wish you and your bird loads of luck... :-)
