I'm a web designer in college. What would switching from XP to Linux benefit for me?
Ok...I was contemplating on either upgrading to Vista Ultimate or switch to Ubuntu.
Now if I go to Ubuntu, I know I would have to use WINE to use Adobe products like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc..and most of the open-source stuff can work on Ubuntu like Firefox, Pidgin, Ktorrent, etc...
But then when I was trying out Vista on my sister's new $600 Dell laptop (installing stuff for her, adjusting settings for her), everything was running smooth on that OS as well. Adobe products worked well, nothing wasn't really going slow, internet was smooth and the whole nine.
When I make money, I make it in loads and then don't have money for like a month (like make $1200 in one day). So when I do get the money, should I buy Vista Ultimate, stay with XP, switch to Ubuntu, or try out that hacked version of Mac OS' Leopard on PC (meaning I would have to upgrade my hardware some)...

Stick with xp. Vista is just going to rob cpu-cycles, wine emolution is not very reliable and a patched osX has support for a very limited set of hardware.
