I live in Illinois and rent a home, if i lived here?

for 3 yrs, and my lease was up after my first year, and now a month to month renter, does the things in the lease still apply? Landlord left a message today about getting my feul check to her, and she expected to see me today, and hoped I had a nice xmas cause she bet I got all the bells and whistles i asked for, insinuating I had spent the money on xmas presents, I just didnt put it in the mail, I planned on taking it to her today. I did when I got the message, went there and said dont ever f@#$ing talk to me like that again I have your checks I just didnt put them in the mail, Basically her message was calling me a liar, ( which i am not) She said I have a lease agreement. Which the lease was up 2yrs ago, I never signed a new one. In the 3 yrs I have lived here, my children and I have had carbon monoxide poisoining where we had to be in the hospital on oxygen, came home and at 10pm that night had to find my own place to stay.     OK, first, it appears that your landlord is a jerk. Just like any other group of people, some folks are great, and others have issues.

    And if you aren't careful, you'll find that jerkiness is contagious. Don't let your landlord's issues turn you into a jerk yourself, no matter how much the landlord may deserve it.

    If you had a lease originally, then you should have a copy of it. Read over it and make sure that you understand its provisions.

    Normally, a lease will have a provision in it that after the original term of the lease, it becomes a month-to-month rental.

    When that happens, any other provisions of the lease will normally still apply.

    The other issues you raise are valid concerns, but do not change the written contract. I would certainly document all of the problems, and insist that any repairs be done by licensed contractors whenever the item being repaired is something that could endanger you or your children.
