"To Daddy," which Dolly Parton wrote, was a hit by Emmylou Harris. I've always found that song sad.

Jim Reeves' "Blue Side of Lonesome," written by the great Leon Payne, is one of the saddest songs he ever performed.

I mentioned this song in my blog the other day: "I'll Have Made It to the Bridge," written by the late Del Reeves, from Charlie Louvin's first solo album, is beyond sad. It's downright depressing.

Speaking of Charlie, a minor hit of his, Bill Anderson's song "Think I'll Go Somewhere and Cry Myself to Sleep" will do exactly what the song title states.

And, if you want to cry for a week or so, try Eddy Arnold's "Little Angel with the Dirty Face."

PS - I much prefer Lefty Frizzell's version of "The Long Black Veil." He puts more emotion into it, and the haunting whistle behind those "S's" enhances the feeling of the song. I'm a Cash fan, but I really felt his rendition of that song left something to be desired.

Tell Laura I Love Her is a sad old country song, but I don't know the writer or singer.

I just had a couple others on the tip of my tongue, but can't think of them right now.
