It would depend on how bad the curve is, I'd guess. If your scoliosis is minor, you can probably play. If your case is moderate to major, you might still be able to play, but the chances of your back hurting are greater.

You will need a physical to play sports so I'd ask the doctor at that time. If you don't get an answer, please make an appointment with your family doctor and ask him/her.

You've asked a pretty important question and it needs to be answered by someone that has examined you.

Source(s): I had my scoliosis detected in 7th grade and wore a Milwaukee brace from 8th grade until my freshman year in college. I was borderline on whether to have surgery or not so it was decided not to do it. Over the years, my curve increased so I had my spine fused at age 39.

You jammy sod haha, wish I was lucky enough to move to the US ;) How much do you already know about the sport? If your answer is 'nothing' you probably won't be a starter, no matter how physically gifted a rugby player you are. Most people over here are overwhelmed at first with the rules & complexity of the sport. However, your big stature & rugby background should see you a roster spot. From what you say about yourself, I'd say you'd be a good fit as a 1st/2nd down linebacker, or a primarily run stopping defensive end. If you picked up pass rushing quickly, you may become a more complete player, therefore you'd see more game time. Another position I considered (from your size) was tight end. If you have good hands and/or pick up blocking quickly, you'd be a force at high school level purely from your build alone. Scholarships are hard to come by. I wish you all the best though mate, good luck starting a new chapter in your life :) (& not to mention getting off this sinking ship of a nation haha)

American football is a very physical sport people do actualy try and hurt you, but there are very competitive flag football teams. Look into city leagues.

i know what scoliosis is and have never heard of it being an issue ...

i mean as long as you are done with the back brace wearing stage ..... should be ok

i dunno though-- would an injury to the back be worse for you ??? having scoliosis than someone not having it ??

talk to your doctors and coaches

depends on how severe it is if it's extreme probably not but if it's mild no cause some peoples spines are slightly diffrent then the "model" spin.

Hmm I'm not sure. Ask your docter. Don't take tips from a internet site with people you don't know.
