Do I need IDP to drive in Florida?

I'm visiting Florida for two months on business visa. I hold valid Indian driver's licence.

1. Do I need an International Driver's Permit to drive in Florida?

2. How long can I drive without an IDP? 1 month/2 months/3 months?

Thanks a lot.

No you don't, because the language on an Indian license is in English. IDP's are only required in the US for people who have licenses that can't be read by an English speaking cop.

You can legally drive in Florida on a foreign license for as long as you are legally there, but legally not a resident. (If you overstay your visa you can no longer legally drive, and if you become a resident you must get a Florida license.)

This really is a good question:)

The answer is No, but not completly for the reason that the first answerer said.

There is an agreement between many, many countries about driving. Having a drivers licence in any of these countries allows you to drive in any of the other countries. The international drivers permit is a courtacy between all the countries because many of the codes used by the different locality doesn't make sence to people in a different country, so the international drivers permit is basicly the same thing as your drivers licence but with any codes spelled out, so that a local cop in the country your going to doesn't have to call in to find someone that might understand what a class D Licence means (where I'm from that is for driving a regular car) or a class A licence (driving a big rig between certain weights)

    Make sence?

    Thanks

You can legally drive in the US on an Indian driver's license for up to 6 months.

An IDP is helpful but not legally required.

However, most rental agencies will not let you rent a car without an IDP.
