The best way to rate an engine is horsepower hours. A engine can have 100 hp for 1000 hours or 1000 hp for an hour. Sportbikes are very strung out. Think about it. A 3.5l engine(3500cc about) makes like 250hp in a car. Thats 71hp/liter. A sportbike say a 600 makes 110hp out of 600cc, or .6 liters. Thats 183hp/liter. On top of that most people buy a sportbike to do what it was designed for...going fast. That engine lives most it's life between 12 and 16000 rpm. Thats 266 times a second that piston goes up and down in the cylinder. The car engine for instance moves at 7000.. or 116 times a second. On top of all that a lot of sportbikes see the track occasionally where they are wide open for most of the day. I would stay away from sportbikes that have over 20k unless you know how they have been taken care of and how they have been maintained. With regards to the answer below me. " Those Japanese bikes" Have right around double the output of a stock harley out of half the size.

It's difficult to tell it's a santa hat in the picture - I actually thought it was more of an old style flapper hat - you can wear it as long as you wish.
