Drinking non- alcoholic beer while prego?
My friend is throwing a New Years party tonight cause he has to work on New Years and im gonna go but im 14 weeks prego and it depresses me that everyone is drinking around me and i cant have any. He suggested buying non alcoholic beer such as O'Douls or something and i didnt know if it was a good idea or not. So he bought me a bottle of Sparkleing Cider instead, but for other parties is non alcoholic beer ok, i know it has .05% of alcohol in it but thats not much more then NyQuil.

Everyone saying "I just wouldn't risk it!" is not using their 'ol noggins.
You would have to drink 10 O'Douls to get the same amount of alcohol as one LIGHT regular beer(which would not hurt your baby at all)!!! Are you people kidding! Alcoholics drink non-alcoholic beer for chrissakes! Do you realize that .05% is less than 1% percent! It is a half a percent!
Please, have a few O'Douls! I'll be downing a couple Kalibers myself on New Year's (I prefer that to O'Douls). GET A LIFE ALL YOU PARTY POOPERS! Is is perfectly safe!

NA beer actually has way less alcohol than Nyquil. And most doctors say an occasional glass of wine for a pregnant woman is ok. So I would think you'd be fine. But maybe better safe than sorry ? You know you're safe if you stick to the sparkling cider.

Well, I was going to buy O'douls for new years eve for myself as my hubby and cousin will be over here drinking but Now I am going to check with my doc tommorw at the appt. I didnt realize it had some alcohol in it. I would call your doctor and just ask them, the receptionist will either as a nurse or ask the doc really quick and no big deal.

It's perfectly fine to drink. FAS happens when a woman drinks a lot during pregnancy (drinking every day, binge drinking, etc.) Most obgyn will tell you that even a glass of wine now and then will not effect your baby.I drink O'douls when I go out with hubby and friends so I don't feel left out. So go ahead and enjoy your non-alcoholic beer. If you have questions, call you obgyn tomorrow and ask them about.
I personally think people are way overreacting to this question. It has .05% alcohol for christ's sake! C'mon...

I did drink non alcoholic beer when I was just a few weeks along. I had morning sickness so bad and I was told that non alcoholic beer helps to ease morning sickness. It really helped the first time I took it, but from then on out it didn't. I think its completely safe. I personally hate the taste of beer.

I wouldn't do it!!! It just isn't worth it. I wouldn't take NyQuil either though. What about virgin mixed drinks. At least you get to go to the party. I was in the hospital on bed rest the New Years my daughter was born. Next year you can whoop it up. Even if you are still breast feeding. You can pump and dump. That way you know you are safe.
Get a life yourself Michelle B . Maybe YOU are an alcoholic if you can't just wait until the baby is born for your precious .5% alcohol. Have you ever been in a NICU? I think not! You may feel differently if you have seen what it can do to a baby. We may be able to handle a little alcohol but would you put it in a baby bottle? NO! Why? Is the baby too small? Or would you just not want to share? YOU get a life outside of the bottle.

Well, they say no amount of alcohol is safe, but....
If you're feeling uneasy about drinking anything containing alcohol, my suggestion would be to drink the sparkling cider and call it a night.
There are more important things in life than alcohol.

in earlier times when people drink wine as it was water, do you think it made sick babies?

i would think it would be ok i just wouldn't drink too much maybe you should alternate from cider and that threw out the night. but i would look a little more into it.
