I have 02 Impala LS with 3.8L and I get 20-22 mpg in town and 34.5 mpg highway

They have always done reasonably well, or at least I consider 30 mpg for a car that size to be pretty good. The better milage is due to the new engines that they use now. Reliability for the old engines was very good, and I'd assume that the new ones would be good too for them to get rid of the old 3.8.

I would guess you should see about 26 MPG combo driving( 1/2 city and 1/2 Highway) otherwise about 30-31 highway.

u should get around 26 to 29. i work at a dealership. we hear some people say that they get even better. it also is determined by the miles and condition of the car.
