I can't pick one... I have two but I will tell both two and explain why.
Childrens Mercy Hospital... I spent 3 months their this year and they are truly miracle workers. They make you feel so good even when you just come out of long surgery. When I had cancer, they made me feel like a celebrity. I would love to donate that much to them. I know my parents are giving them a big chunk in medical bills but it would still be nice.

If I didn't donate to that, I would donate to the cancer society. I have lost both my grandpas to cancer and I have 2 aunts currently fighting. I fought leukimia (form of cancer) myself this year. We just found out my cousin has it, so he starts to under go treatment this weekend or early next week. It has affected my life and my loved ones in it and I wish they could find something to help it so we don't lose so many people to the terrible disease.

That was a really good question!

Yes you can do that, but it you'll STILL be out of pocket for the difference between the donation and the tax savings. If you donated the $10k you'd save about $3,300 in taxes but would still have $6,700 less than you would have had if you had not made the donation. Actually, $250k falls about midway in the 33% bracket so you won't drop a bracket anyway. Spending money to save taxes virtually NEVER pays off. Make the donation for the good that it does, NOT for any tax savings.

I wouldn't "Donate" it to a charity because you can't really tell the charties that actually use a majority of the money and which ones end up paying their higher'up's huge paychecks while continuing to bilk money from a charatable public.
If I had that much to use to help people I would use half of it with the project where they give homeless people apartments (because then I would KNOW where all the money goes) and the other half would go towards buying books for low income children.
BOOKS because they are worthless to crack head parents and won't be sold off or stolen like computers would be.
I could do a LOT of good... Especially if I could hook up with the major book retailers and/or publishers and get books just for the tax write off!
If I couldn't do the books then I would use the funds to get pet supplies for the Humain Society or anti-cruelty.

I would donate to a charity by the name of The Charity Stripe. The organization was started by a brother and sister when they were in high school. They have been in contact with NBA basketball players and have received their autographed jerseys and gameballs to sell in order to raise money for a tutoring company in inner-city Chicago. What they are doing is truly inspirational. They have received a grant from a national Jewish organization (Panim-el-Panim) to help further their efforts. Check out their website at www.thecharitystripe.org or email the organization using the email address at the bottom of their webpage.

I would donate it to homes for humanity. I know what being without your own home is like , after a couple of years of my husband having surgery and with everything going up we lost our home. We have worked hard all our lives and every day is sad to know that we will have to rent the rest of our lives. I think everyone in United States should have a home of their own especially if you have worked all your lives. You could build 2 -100,000 dollar homes and give them to a needy family and give the 50,000 to a family as a down payment , sometimes all people need is a chance. I hope you can make this dream come true for some people

Samaritan's Purse
Feed the Children
Strengthen our Sisters (battered woman's shelter)
Project Life (family alternative housing)
Habitat for Humanity
My local animal shelter
This is assuming that I would be allowed to split the quarter million. The reason behind each charity is that it serves others, helping them to gain independence and to move forward. I enclude an animal shelter because animals, like children, are often the innocent victims in this world. Non should suffer.

Before you donate to any charity, check their ratings on websites like charitynavigator.org or give.org (there are other websites). I m only interested in top rated faith based charities. I wouldn t want to give the dollar amount to just one charity___would prefer 10. My interests are rescuing sex trafficked children and teen girls___water wells in third world countries____pro life organizations____Messianic Jewish charities__medical and dental assistance in third world countries. I don t like and usually won t donate to charities who excessively solicit money after I give once. They waste a lot of money on mailings that could be used to do their "good work."

I would donate it to the Houston Fire Fighters Burned and Crippled Children's Fund. They do a tremendous amount of good for the kids and do not pay salaries like most charities do, the money goes straight where it is needed most

well if splitting it between two charity's is acceptable i would donate to the american cancer society because i am currently in college trying to become an oncologist and stopping cancer is a mission of mine, and i would donate the other half to the aspca because i am a huge animal lover and i think people are more inclined to donate to a charity that helps people then one that helps animals so i would help my furry friends out.
