Cat Litter and Cat Nip....?
I need to get my cat to pee in his litter box somehow!
Will putting cat nip in the litter box be bad?
Any other suggestions?
I have took him to the vet.
Sprayed stuff to keep him away from the spots he pees at. He has Been doing it for two years now. He uses the litter box to poop but not to pee
He has no infection. At least that is what the vet told me.
I have two cats. One pees and poops in the box just fine. The other just likes to poop on it and pees else where.
also, I have tried many different types of cat boxs. Cover, Non cover, Giant ones, mid size, the domes....
I tried just about every litter box. I even tried having two litter boxes.
I just purchase a self cleaning litter box Maybe that will to it.
I knew that the Cat nip idea won't work but I just gave him some today for the first time and he loves it! I was thinking maybe that will draw his attention to the litter box :P
And I do rub his nose in spots that he pees...

My purebred Bengal has the opposite problem. He pees in the box, but poops just outside the box on the floor. Try a litter called "cat attract". That is supposed to work for pee issues. There is also a litter additive by the same people that you sprinkle in the litter. www.petfooddirct.com has both. Somebody suggested putting a bit of very fertile soil in the box. That's the only thing I have not tried with my cat. I suppose he thinks his poo is a nice decoration. Silly cat. I bought a littermaid and they all use it and it's easy cleanup, unless kitty won't use it. I've tried all those things you have, it's very frustrating. Good luck!

Glad you got the vet to check him out!
OMG .... ROLF.... - DO NOT put 'nip in the box - unless you enjoy watching your cat roll around in the clumps and rubbing his own face in it. Then walking over to you and rubbing all over you, the sofa, the bed...
If you use a scented litter - switch to one that has as little scent as possible. Could be just a sensitive nose. Or the texture is wrong. Or something scared him enough 1 or 2 times while peeing that the box is now DANGEROUS!!! to that walnut sized mind of his.
Generally I am being told a good 'formula' for catboxes is # of cats + 1, to avoid any territory issues.
Age of the cat could mean he just can't move fast enough to get there before peeing.
Is it a full bladder's worth? Or just a spritz? Full means box aversion has set in, spritz is generally a territorial thing.

Rub some on your cat's toys and watch. They love it. They roll in it, lick it off and go a bit wild. It's kitty drugs. Don't put it in their litter box or they'll roll in their poo and then roll on you. I kept my catnip in a jar. Any time I shook the jar or unscrewed the lid the cats came running. If you want a use, use it to make the cats come. Not all cats enjoy catnip. There is a tiny percentage of cats out there which catnip has no affect.

Just place him gently in the cat box and sit with him. Don't put cat nip in it - cats won't pee where they've eaten anything.
If he won't use it - check the location of the box - put it in a quiet private area and make sure you're using a decent litter.
Good luck!

most cats go in the litter box, they are trained as kittens by their mother.....
sounds very odd that yours does not use the box.... try a different litter, and keep it clean...try a new place sometimes something happens that scares the cat and they associate the fear or pain or whatever with that particular box...or place
good luck

don't do it, cats often eat or roll around in catnip.
put a little litter from another, used cat box (preferably from a member of his litter/mother) in a new box (with fresh litter too); it will make the box smell like the"right" place to him, and he'll know what to do in it.
Sometimes you'll need to put them in it and take their paw and make like you're digging in it, to give them the idea.
Clean his box out regularly, they don't like a dirty bathroom anymore (actually less) than you do.

yes because he will think that it is a place to play not go to the bathroom. what you need to do it put him in his litter box after he eats and drinks and when you think he might need to pee. try that for awhile he should get the hint.

It's a drag but the first thing you MUST do is take your cat to the vet to rule out infection. If everything is fine (ask for advice there, as well) then you can try Feliway

YES if you don't mind the cat freaking out and spreading the littler and feces all over the place!
Get a dog!
And by the way ... their are studies underway that are revealing that certain Respiratory ailments appear more readily in Cat owners than any other pet induced physical ailments ... so cat lovers beware!
