Joe Calzaghe vs Kelly Pavlik?

Instead of going up in weight, what would happen if Calzaghe dropped a few pounds and fought the winner of Pavlik/Taylor II?

Ooh, tough one. This would be a tough one because of the weight, really. Calzaghe is supposed to be moving up, and dropping to 166, although he can do it, wouldn't really do him any favours. How drained Calzaghe would be at the weight would play a part. So too would be how well Pavlik carries his power at, say 166. Frank Warren was talking about letting Joe go to America, but that was to face Hopkins. Would he let Joe go to take on Pavlik? Bearing in mind Joe's desire to fight in the US, I belive Warren's hands would be tied here.

As for the fight itself: I don't think Pavlik can drop Joe - Kessler couldn't drop him with flush right hands. I believe Joe did drop Mikkel with a borderline shot, and bearing in mind that Taylor dropped Pavlik, I belive that Calzaghe could do the same at some point tin the fight. Also, because of the punch output of both fighters, this would be a candidate for fight of the year. Joe and Kelly trade, and Joe gets hurt erarly, but comes back, drops Pavlik in the 5th and the 8th, and the referee stops it in Round 10. Calzaghe by TKO

I think what Jermaine Taylor lacked in ability to beat Pavlik, Calzaghe greatly makes up for it. I see the fight definitely ending in an exciting knockout by Calzaghe.

blogbaba why say the winner of taylor/pavlik. We all know that taylor cant beat pavlik. taylor is so stupid for jumping right back into this match up with pavlik. the first fight displayed that there is nothing taylor can do to knock out pavlik. honestly blogbaba 1 or 2 what pavlik showed me is that he has a very tough chin and I dont think calzaghe has the power to take him out. So I think Calzaghe will probably retire after a taylor match hes older and the more he gets into the ring with these younger fresher opponents hes eventually going to get stopped.

i think calzaghe can out class taylor and pavlik to a victory simply by out pointing them. but if he gives pavlik a oppurtunity as he gave kessler i think pavlik will rain supreme. Calzaghe is a true boxing champion and honestly I dont think there is any middle weights who could out box him. now in light heavyweight I think chad dawson could put up a good match with his speed and defense. hopkins calzaghe taylor/pavlik vs. calzaghe all of these matches ups will be a big draw but honestly none of them can beat calzaghe.

Great Fight !!!!, I'd plunk down my 54.95 PPV for this thriller. First I must say that I picked Pavlic to beat Taylor based on Taylors hand position (Hands held dangerously low especially when jabbing) and also because I felt like Pavlic would back Taylor up (and Taylor doesn't do well in reverse) , that said I do not detect the same flaws in Calzaghe. (For the record I don't think Joes win over Lacy was that big of a deal, I thought Lacy had some style flaws that played into Joe's hands...errrr, fists perfectly. (i.e. styles make fights)

The weight would not be much of a factor. Kelly's heart would keep him in the fight and his punching power would make him dangerous, but I think in the long run, over 12 rounds Joes consistant work rate and slight edge in hand speed allows him to win a exciting 12 round decision...where he climbs off the canva to do it.

    BOTH fighters stock go up....

    Keep Your Hands Up !!!

I've said before that Pavlik is the best fighter at 160 and 168 and if he ever gets to fight Calzaghe he'll prove it.

  • It depends on where this fight happens. Calzaghe is unbeatable in Wales but if it takes place in America I give Pavlik a punchers chance.

Pavlik has great punch power but is similar to Jeff Lacey in the sense that he is quite one dimensional and easy to work out. I actually think Taylor will beat Palvik in the rematch and that he would be a harder fight for Calzaghe. I see Calzaghe beating them both at super middleweight, but at middleweight i think Calzaghe would be very drained at that weight, but would still outbox Palvik and beat him on points but would struggle more against Taylor at middleweight.

it ought to take place besides the shown fact that it is not as probable as you ought to think of. warring parties are not attracted to protecting their titles anymore except the opponent is a few famous person. IOW, if somebody holds a welterweight identify he could consistently be welcome to furnish De l. a. Hoya a shot. the 2nd a fighter wins a identify he is going perfect the place the money is. In a fashion i can not blame him. As a fan I desire it weren't consistently so. Who else is there interior the middleweight branch for Pavlik to combat? He ought to combat Winky Wright. he's between the few interior the branch who isn't frightened of Wright. Taylor 3? what's the element? Calzaghe would not could desire to combat Pavlik. it may be an impressive combat yet Joe has different recommendations at a hundred seventy five and little else to teach if he in no way fights in any respect. Pavlik is the recent guy and individuals like him with the aid of fact he's in simple terms an usual working type guy. he's youthful so his recommendations are open besides, in simple terms no longer interior the middleweight branch. Pavlik does no longer ought to flow up. He can if he desires to make funds. no one one hundred sixty or decrease than can beat Pavlik. His toughest stressful circumstances will come from above. no one at a hundred seventy five can beat Calzaghe yet he nevertheless has different recommendations what are as beautiful as Pavlik. human beings p.c. to work out Joe vs Roy. i in my view do no longer want a rematch with Hopkins. as much as i like boxing, and that i will stay with the boasting, i in my view hate the numerous race debates that accompanied the Hopkins-Calzaghe combat. human beings will proceed to assert that's Bernard's fault for making that stupid assertion. besides the shown fact that, they do no longer make concerns from now on suitable by means of preserving the detest alive. Im relatively stunned he could say this style of situation with the aid of fact I in no way took him as racist. Im beneficial he regrets it for many reasons besides the shown fact that he misplaced. Bernard's no longer a dumb guy yet in specific situations he speaks till now he thinks. regrettably we've greater juveniles than point headed human beings so they shop it feuled with the aid of fact they're too shallow to do something. There could be somewhat US vs uk with Calzaghe--Pavlik yet i desire human beings can shop it interior of carrying experience and not flow too very own. I consistently concept the united kingdom have been our allies so I in no way observed the combat in that way. I see BOXER A vs BOXER B.

Pavlik all the way. KP is the big leagues and JC has been blowing them away in triple A. I believe both Pavlic and Taylor are fighting at 166 for the rematch for some reason. That implies both are moving on to super middle, which also explains why JC has his eyes on 175.
