Cotto vs Mayweather, if it happens who wins?

Mayweather looked good against a very game 140 lb. Hatton, I personally think Cotto is too much for Mayweather, but Floyd has a way of always proving me wrong when ever I question his ability. Can Mayweather take the pressure Cotto brings, or is 147 to much for Floyd with a young top notch welterweight?

Cotto is a very good fighter.

That said, his style is not the match up that will defeat Floyd Mayweather.

Let me say I'm really not a big Floyd fan, I mean he simply rubs me the wrong way, but his style is clever and "cute" as the old-timers like to say. Cotto is a fighter, a boxer-puncher whose heart and aggression wins him contests, but not this one.

I dare say the more aggressive you are the worst off you are against Floyd. Sugar Shane Mosleys' style, Sugar Ray Leonards' style THOSE are the style match ups that beat Floyd Mayweather. Oscars' biggest success against Floyd came when he was boxing, using his jab, (not girly flailing) and keeping Floyd guessing. Zab Judah had some similiar sucess early in thier contest. BOX Floyd and that's what troubles him.

Floyd settles in about round 3 or 4 and wins a wide margin UD.

Mayweather is a extensive renowned. Cotto has a shot yet he desires to combat a perfect combat. Cotto desires to attack the physique lots and probably get Floyd drained and interior the later rounds Cotto desires to push the gas and optimistically win by means of TKO

  • Cotto isn't ready for someone like Mayweather. Cotto couldn't even hurt a past his prime Shane Mosley. Mayweather might even KO Cotto late just like he did Hatton.

Cotto is a better puncher at 147 than Oscar De La Hoya at 154. He is such a good bodypuncher. But the mistake people make is thinking a slick boxer can't have power. Look at what Mayweather did to good boxers like Corrales (very few gave Floyd a hope in this one), Corley, Gatti, Baldmir (who came into the ring at 160, and would have been KO'd, had Floyd went for it), De La Hoya (rocked DLH, who isn't exactly chinny, with a flush right), Mitchell (yeah, he was on the slide, and handpicked for Floyd's Welter debut, but Floyd knocked him out with ONE shot). And last but not least, a certain Mr. Hatton. Mayweather can bang, he just prefers to outbox and outclass the competition. Thats not being a coward, thats being smart. Any trainer worth two cents will tell you to not take stupid chances at the risk of getting caught with a lucky punch. Many fighters in history that the fans love were face first fighters like Gatti and others like him who werent afraid to take 3 shots to land one. That isnt very smart and years later you can pay dearly for it. Look at the state Meldrick Taylor is in now for proof of that.

Cotto could take encouragement from the amount of times Oscar was landing with his body punches, although a lot of those were arm punches, with no real power in them eye catchers for the judges. Would Cotto have enough time to be able to get off with flush body shots? Could he get near enough to Floyd to be able to do so? Floyd Mayweather Jr would have his hands full for a few rounds but I think he is good enough to befuddle Cotto and win a Unanimous 12 round decision.

If there's anyone out there that could beat Mayweather at 147; its Miguel Cotto. However, I don't think even Cotto could do it. As other people have said Mayweather is just too fast for Cotto. Perhaps Mayweather wills slow down a tad, seeing how he is 31 already. Then again, Mayweather is a young 31 with his superb defense. Cotto is a better boxer than people give him credit for; people tend to say he is a slow, body punching brawler, which is partially, but not entirely true. Cotto would almost have to land a rabbit punch unseen, or the like, to slow Floyd down, and get him to slug it out. Obviously to win this fight, Cotto would have to slow Floyd down. To do that he must go to the body, and get past Floyd's defense. Cotto is a great body puncher, but not quite that great. If Cotto could withstand all of Floyd's pinpoint shots for say, 9 rounds, he may eventually slow down Floyd a little bit and have a shot at a late Knockout. I think Floyd is just too experienced for Cotto, as Mayweather has 21 title fights to Cotto's 16. Floyd is also great at adapting. My call for this one is Mayweather by TKO in 7.

cotto cant even compete with mayweather. or you nuts dude mayweather is to fast for cotto. look at cotto's foot speed its to slow. the advantage hatton had that any of mayweather opponents didnt have was his foot speed. every time mayweather tried to back away from hatton he was right there. if you were cotto what would be your stragedy. every one knows cotto is not a inside boxer he likes to box from the outside. the game plan that he had against mosely would fail against mayweaher. his strategy would be to pressure and if he decides to box on the inside we all know that mayweather would get the best of him. mayweather punching power is highly underestimated and taking for granted. believe me if he ever decides to slug it out I think he can hold his own. So a cotto match would look more like the baldimir match. if judah could rock cotto because he exposes his chin to much mayweather would be able to right money mayweather on it all night to a 9th round stoppage. Im sorry i like cotto but hes further away from the mayweather level than hatton was.

i think mayweathers speed would frustrate cotto and with cotto being a young fighter with fights against only 2 world class opponets he would make a mistake. mayweather would jump on it and finish him off much like he did to hatton,

Mayweather by means of knockout 9th round

At this point there is no reason to doubt Pretty Boy Floyd. 7 pounds is not that much in terms of boxing, considering he probably walks around at about 160 when hes not training. His speed wont be threatened by the weight gain and he has shown that he can beat fighters that are more powerful than him when he has faced them. Plus Mayweather has fought at 147 before, winning the WBC title.

it amazes me how people keep saying who floyd can't beat when he's undefeated in the ring and pound for pound best out now. cotto barely beat an aged mosely and ran the last couple rounds and just lucky for him shane never through any power shots to try and hurt cotto in the late rounds while he had cotto running against the ropes and shane was getting hit in the middle of the ring way to much and those 2 incidents is what gave cotta a slight edge and either one would not happen if he fought floyd i guarantee you that

Absolutely May whether!!! If they both bring their A game and train hard maywhether dominates Cotto. No body trains like PBFM. Cotto is strong just like Hattan is but skill will always out match strength... Maywhether wont let Cotto use his strenth he will pop is butt with that jab every time to set up the left hook.. That pressure is what will huRt cotto maywhether is boring to watch when he is fighting a BUM!!! but when he is fighting a woRld class he turns into a unniverse class of a fighter.. Floyd has (ARI) advanced ring inteligence!!!!
