Which sport is more violent? And which one has more vicious hits? Also, would you rather play Rugby or American Football professionally?

The pads that players wear in American football don't make the game less ferocious. They are there because it's a necessity. The hits in football are exponentially harder than in rugby. Both games are violent and extremely physical, but the fact is that half the hits that occur in American Football are illegal in Rugby or you will never see that type of hit because of the rules of the game. For example, not once in the history of rugby has a player been blind sided, had a head on full speed collision with another player or had their head nearly taken off by a linebacker on a crossing route. I can 100% guarantee that if rugby instituted a forward pass, they would start wearing pads immediately or players would start dieing on the field.

I would say American Football is more violent at the professional level only because of the size and speed of the players. Rugby doesn't use the protective equipment of football, but it's also probably not as physically demanding on your body. I think at a pro level I'd rather play Rugby if for no other reason than the fact that I'd personally rather have all the parts of my body in good working order when I retire. I actually like rugby a good bit. I watch some of the world cup games when they're on. It's a much more fast paced game than American Football, but I don't think it is as violent because there is less chance of serious injury (although you see a lot more blood from less serious injuries.)

Im going with a different code of Rugby, called Rugby League. The hits are way harder than Rugby (still not as hard as football) and with no padding. In Rugby League, about 5-10 years ago it was okay to have a fight on the field. Still now in the Professional era it's 1 of the most violent sport.

The size and speed of the athletes playing football is insane! Look at Demarcus Ware imagine if he played rugby!
If Rugby had half the size of players then it would be the roughest sport but... Rugby doesn't hit the same. Even though NFL has pads the size and strength of the players basically takes away the pads. The energy involved going through the body on a blind side blitz or a Wide out being hit across the middle is like being hit by a car.
Definitely NFL!

I would go for rugby. Even though I do play Football I admit, Rugby is more tougher. Football now has more rules to protect the player for their life off of the field and the gear is more protective and harder. Now if you were to talk about the 1980's and before I'd say Football because back then there weren't as much rules as there were now and the gear wasn't as hard. Rugby and the other hand hasn't modified its rules in forever and they don't wear ANY protection what so ever.

The pads make the players even bigger and thus hits are harder. Add to that, the size, speed and training regimine of NFL players, and it's not even close. You put the top rugby guy in NFL pads and in an NFL game, and he'll be crushed.

football has harder hits...more speed and a helmet is pretty much a weapon. how many concussions do you see in rugby? personally, i would rather play professional rugby...its the ultimate man's game.

American football by far. They are padded up and in battle uniforms that give them a false sense of safety and with that being said, thay feel invincable and hit harder.

American football has protection gears for players to limit injury. So Rugby is rougher than American Football.
