Enthalpy is the internal heat contained in all bodies. This is used to obtain how much work you can obtain from them. Enthalpy of reaction is the ammount of heat that can be released or absorved in a endothermic process. Actually is used for the same. For example in cars, the ammount of heat obtained from the fuel combustion is used to calculate the work that the car can developed and as a consequence the power. Just as a tip and a little bit obvious enthalpy is dependent of temperature.
