Why a playoff in college football?

First, The BCS is against the playoff so many people want, (money). second, what does it solve, there are always going to be teams left off the schedule, where would you start,4,8,16 teams? Can anyone say that florida would make it with three losses. but down the stretch the played as good as anybody( and i am a OSU fan!). Third, would the best team really win? All you have to do is look at the NFL, i.e. the Steelers in '05. They weren't the best team in football, At least 4, 5 better. But they peaked at the right time, injuries to other teams, and stacking in playoff schedules worked for them, I am not complaining, I am a steeler fan, I just mean if that was college ball, they would not of been in the tournament? So why a playoff, Win them all, get the banner. ( College players are still STUDENT, athletes right. And last, what about tradition, these teams will really chedule cupcakes, and get rid of rivalries. It's up and down for conferences sec will be down soon too!

you got that right dude there will always be controversy no matter what playoff or no playoff you have a great example with the steelers and you are right teams wouldnt play hard schedules anymore and tradition and rivalries would get lost and the way you show your a good team is that you win all your games which is very hard to do now days, with the spread offense ask oklahoma, and going to w/e bowl and winning it and continue on to the next season

Well, I guess that all of the other sports that use the playoff system are wrong. If that is true why doesn't everyone else go to a poll system and they could have bowl games since it is such a good idea. How about it. Let's just get a petition started that states all other sports, professional, amateur, collegiate go to a poll system and that would end debates everywhere, WHAT A JOKE. How many debates are there about who wins the Super Bowl, The World Series, The Stanley Cup. Not MUCH, Why? Because they won their divisions, their conferences and finally their respective championships. Think about it.

I say the NCAA should establish a 16-team playoff consisting of the eleven conference champions (yes including the lowly Sun Belt champs) and five at-large berths. You are forgetting that all of the other divisions of college football already have a playoff system in place. D-I FBS (formerly I-A) is the only sport that the NCAA does not conduct an organized tournament to determine a national champion and I say that ought to change soon.

The playoff is a good idea. Teams like Georgia, Missouri, Hawaii, etc. would have had a shot at the National Title. The current bowl system leaves some deserving teams out of a shot to win it all. This will stop all the speculating and put them on the field to prove it belongs to play in that one "big game."

I am a Georgia fan, and I am one of the only ones that agree that LSU deserves it over us. BUT, what about Oklahoma? USC? VT? WVU? Why cant they have their shot? Its left up to coaches and media for the most part on who plays in the NC. Why not leave it up to the players on the field. I played college ball for a school in the formerly known as Div 1-AA. We won one NC my senior year, and another the year after I left. All through pounding through the best teams in D1-AA. Made us feel proud, and nobody disputed our crown. We didnt share it with anyone. Look at 2003 and 2004. LSU won the NC, but because the voters liked USC, they voted them in as co-champions. Yet the next year, USC won the NC, and Auburn was also undefeated. Did anyone give them a share of the NC? nope, cause theyre not USC. PLayoffs will kill all the debate once and for all.
