57 is the medium tension. You can go up five pounds or down five pounds. so when u string ur racquet, the recommended string tension should be between 52 and 62 pounds. if u buy a racket that already has a string on it, the tension is usually 57

basically it means you can string your tension in between 5 lbs less then 57 which is 52 or in between 5 lbs higher then 57 which is 62 lbs. the makers recommend this as the tension weight, between 52-62lbs. you can string it however low or higher if you want, depending on what you want, low=more power + high=more control.
and the answer to your first question is its hard to tell your exact string tension if you don't know what your looking for. if its really springy then it will be on the lower side say 53 and if its tight it will be higher, say 60lbs. take it to a professional re-stringer and they should be able to give you an idea of what tension its at.
hope it helps

well kp and lbs are type of measurements:
to know lbs, you said your racket says 57+/- 5 lbs. That means when you go to get your racket strung, the tension to put on the racket should be 57 below or above pounds. If the strings are tighter due to higher tension you'll have more ball control, and if you have a lower tension it generates more power.

more tension the more control you have over the ball... trust me from experience because i string mine at like 65-67 and its controlled. But if it says 57 +/- 5 that means that you can be between 52 and 62lbs. IT depends on what you want. More power less tension, more tension more control.

if you ask the person who strings the racket they should know. dont want to mix it up, so i would just ask the pro
