Why can't it ever be like before?
Why can't people stay together and make things work like they did in the old days? Why is everything so thought out and difficult? Someone please tell me!!! Why do people give up so easily and toss love and memories to the wind?

You've got it right there-- they give up too easily.
This world has gone technologically wild-- everything is instant, and there's nothing hard to get to. Phones and cameras are the size of your palm. You can get internet and TV access wherever you go, you can connect with anyone, anywhere, any time... but guess what? LIFE isn't like that. People have become conditioned to thinking that everything should be quick and easy--we've become a disposable society. Anything that doesn't suit this second, or make me happy instantly, is gone.
And that includes relationships.
How sad, because it's the work that goes into them that makes them so worth it in the end, and gives people that bond that they need to stay together.
People are coddled now as they grow up-- kindergarten graduations, sports days with no winners, parties where EVERYONE wins a prize. Everything is about self-esteem-- if it doesn't make you feel good about yourself, it isn't allowed. So... if your relationship doesn't make you feel good RIGHT NOW, YOU won't ALLOW it! It's sad and it's wrong.
I think it also ties in with the decline of active religion, to be honest. People who go to some sort of church, whatever that may be, believe in gratification that is NOT instant. They know they have to work, suffer and wait, and be patient. That doesn't mean that people who don't attend church will go to Hell or are evil or are bad or whatever, it just is a general mindset of the people who actively believe in something outside this universe. We have become self-centered and self-indulgent. Heaven help the human race if we ever have to face another major crisis like WW2. Some people's mommies will have to come and get their kids out of the draft because it wouldn't be good for little Johnny's self-esteem to try and stop Hitler while getting SHOT AT...
Don't start me off, lol...
Anyway, that's just MHO.

There are some of us left :o)
Granted, I'm not married to my honey, but we're going on 15 years together and planning an October 2008 wedding. We didn't HAVE to stay together, but we genuinely love and like each other, and that sees us through the good times and bad. Whenever we hit a bump in the road, we just always know the smooth parts will come around again.
