Try the flash on another machine. If it doesn't show then well, check whether it works or not, how, I will tell you.
Right Click on My Computer and select Properties, Select Hardware, then in Hardware select Device Manager. OK, in the End of the whole technical stuffs is Universal Serial Bus Controllers, press on the + sign right next to it. I Want you to check whether there is an "unknown device" in it. Mostly all the flash that shows that got burned inside.
To avoid such problems, always plug your flash behind the computer. The front side USB's are wire links, you connect the wires on the motherboard, if the Case manufacturer gives a wrong color code for the wire, almost all the USB devices can become toast.

do other usb devices work propperly? if not do the following:
if you are using an old operation system like windows 95 (maybe 98 too) you might need to install the drivers for it. if that isnt the case, connect it to a different usb port, preferebly on the back side as those are connected directly to the board while the front ones usually require you to connect the wires to them.
if it does work, your front usb ports might be faulty, some other hardware is, or they are not at all connected in which case just take it to a technician to deteremine weather the problem is with the motherboard, computer case, or whatever else
if it doesnt work, and other usb devices do work, it is probably your flash drive that is faulty.

No big deal....You simply need to map a new drive. You can do that by following these instructions:
Insert your thumb drive into the USB port. Once the drive is inserted, right click My Computer, go to Manage, then Disk Management. The USB Drive should show up there. Then Right click it, and do change Drive letter. Assign it the next free letter you have and save it. And then you should be able to access it as normal through My Computer.

Leave your flash drive inserted, shut off the computer and then start it again by powering it up and windows should find new hardware installed. You may have removed it without using safely removing it. But you didn't state what windows operating system you are using. Windows XP and Windows Vista don't work alike.

You probably need to install drivers for it. The manufacturers website will probably have them. If not, sites like www.opendrivers.com might. If that doesn't work, make sure that USB slot works by plugging something else into it.
Once you get it working be sure to use the Safely Remove Hardware Wizard before you take out the flash drive.

There may be more then one port.
If its a tower computer check the back. If its a laptop find the website for the flash drive seek tech support, or return the flash drive if its new and buy a new one.

Are you sure it wasn't recognized? I thought I had the same problem and it actually read it but I had to go to "my computer" and found the device on F: (on my compter)
I would also make sure that it is plugged into the USB port properly.....and also that the USB port is functioning. Good Luck with it!

if you plugged it into the front side of the computer, try the backside - sometimes the cables to the front ports aren't/don't get properly connected.
