You can get an email alert on your cell phone; i used to have this option but got a new phone so i haven't thought about using it yet; it's quite useful though. http://alerts.yahoo.com/ and click on mail and then you can follow the directions to set it up on your cell.

messenger has sound and visual notification

yahoo messenger only checks yahoo mail

but does have visual notification

it does have alot of other benifits

Remove Old Version Of Messenger Or

Yahoo Tool bar FIRST

click start (on the blue bar at the bottom of your screen)

then control panel

then add and remove programs

find the program you want to remove

choose remove

messenger is at the bottom

Set It Up Messenger

to make sure the sound option is set up

at the top of messenger click messenger

then preferences

then alerts and sounds

put check beside this option

when you get a message

click the envelope at bottom of the screen to read your email

Volume Settings

first check all wires to speakers

see if unpluged from the back of computer also

then

click start

control panel

sounds and audio devices

volume

put check beside -- put volume control in task bar

make sure muted has not got a check mark beside it

read all settings

be sure to click apply and ok

it will be on the blue bar (task bar)

just click new icon 2 times to adjust sound etc

You will need to have Yahoo Instant Messenger open in the background to hear the sounds.

1. With Messenger open, click on "Messenger."

2. Click on "Preferences."

3. Click on "Alerts & Sounds."

4. Check the box next to "Enable alert sounds.

5. Check the box next to "Alert me when someone signs on or off by showing a message at the bottom right corner."

6. Check the box next to "Playing a Sound."

7. Click the "Browse" button to choose the sound you prefer.

8. Click OK to save and close your preferences.

Open sounds and audio in the control panel and enter sounds. Click new mail and pick one.
