You can pay anywhere from $ 100 - $ 1000 (or more)!! It can be a plain cake with nice decoration or a huge sculpture with fountains, etc.
Analyze what you want / what you want to spend and then shop for it.

Bakers charge by the slice of cake/per person. Cost can range from $7.00 to even $20 per person or more. Depends on your budget! Usually a cake can cost you between $500 to $1000 for 100 persons. Check around and see which of the best bakeries in your area can provide you with a good cake at a good cost per slice! Keep in mind the type of cake, the filling, the icing and/or fondant, the decorations whether they be sugar or fresh flower, the cake topper and the stand that the cake will be placed on....all this add up and at times are addtional costs to the costs per slice. Make sure you ask if they cut your cake as well or if the Venue has this service cuz many venues charge extra for cake cutting and serving. Good Luck!

I live in Austin, TX and most of the bakeries around here charge between $2.50 and $3.00 per serving. So...your cake would be between $250 and $300. However - that is ONLY the cake. The flowers or fruit used for decoration cost extra, the cake stand costs extra, and you may have to pay a delivery and set-up fee. Our cake is chocolate with raspberry filling, 3 tier, decorated with strawberries and raspberries. The cake, fruit, and cake stand will be just over $300 for 100 guests. We're also picking it up and setting it up ourselves. I have a friend who just spent $600 on a similar-sized cake from the same bakery, but she had hers decorated with fresh flowers instead of fruit.

You need to shop around at different bakeries. Schedule a tasting and go from there. Like the person above said it can be anywhere from $100 to $1000. Besides the number of servings the price is also determined by the design, the filling, the type of icing, and if applicable deposits for cake stands. Find pictures of different cakes you like and take them to the different bakeries with you. Good Luck.

I don't know where you live, but I'm in CA and my wedding cake was $4.50 per serving (last year.) I'm sure prices have gone up though. It also depends on if you are going to serve only from your wedding cake, or if you are going to have a smaller wedding cake, and then have sheet cakes hidden in the back to serve from as well. This cuts down on the cost a bit.

it all depends on the type of cake you are having. if you get things like a round cake verses a square cake and fondant icing instead of butter cream it will make the price of your cake go up. it also depends on the detail of the cake. im getting my wedding cake & my grooms cake for a total of 600 all together. it just depends on where u go. don't be afraid to shop around and get the best deal.

It all depends on where you get the cake from, where you live and how big you want it. Our cake is costing us about $350 for approximately 200 people.

You can get a basic tiered cake at Albertsons for $300. From my experience, most bakeries will charge around $700.

There is no 'should'. Go fancy and ten tier if you want, or go with sheet cake, or cupcakes - all depends on the style you want and the budget you have.
