how can i creat a Linux OS cd to boot from shutdown?
i downloaded the Ubunsun (spelling?) from their website but not sure how to write to a blank cd to creat a full installation os for my laptop with blank hard drive.
I set the laptop to boot from cd drive first, and it is doing it... except it doesnt not seem to "understand" what the cd i burned is saying (i guess because i incorrectly burn the cd)
please show me what file to download, then use what program to write to cd so that my computer can read when turned on.
what option should i choose when writting the cd?
thanks a bunch!
please be detailed, i am new to this process.
thanks!

Download the iso from here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Burn with something like nero choosing to open the image, or magiciso (I'd go with magiciso).
Download from here:
http://www.magiciso.com/download.htm
Then choose to burn at minimum speed, put the disk in your CD rom and reboot your computer selecting CD as your primary boot device (make sure this is selected), this will load the install process at this point the rest is fairly easy.
Ubuntu isn't a great operating system if your not a bit geeky, it can be hard to use... By the way it wont work at all if your using a mac, it NEEDS to be a PC.

The ubuntu download is a disc IMAGE, or ISO. You burn a CD with a CD burning program. The burning program should have an "ISO" or "cd-image" option. Or, if you've got time, Ubuntu will mail you a bootable CD free.
At the Computer's startup, you have to go into BIOS and change the boot order of what the computer will look at the drives. Old computers looked at the A:\, D:\ (or the CD) and then finally the C:\ hard drive for start instructions. However, some HP computers named the hard drive "A:\" instead of C:\
Linux (what Ubuntu is) will run on any Intel or AMD cpu based computer. Old Macs, made before the PowerPC chip will not run Linux.
If you like Ubuntu, you install and it will run faster. If you got the version 6.10 (Gutsy) or 7.1 (experimental) you should be fine with just about all your added devices such as audio cards. Use the Ubuntu Forums to get fast and friendly advice if you have problems.
Ubuntu is the easiest of the Linux distros to get running. Other distros might be faster but they take more previous experience.

Try CDBurnerXP (free, works on XP, Vista, maybe other). Go to File > Write ISO file (I think, I haven't used the program in a long time as I am now a Linux user). Choose the ISO file you downloaded from the Ubuntu website (filename.iso) and tell it to burn. The CD it creates should boot on the laptop.
If the CD does not boot, you might have to adjust your blank laptop's BIOS settings. If the CD doesn't work, post back here and I can try to help you with that.
