If your answer is chosen as Best Answer, is it proper to thank the asker for selecting your answer?

Update:

Thanks to all!

Yeah I think it is quite nice, although not at all expected. I've sometimes done that, especially when the asker leaves a nice message for me when choosing me as BA. I just leave a comment on the question, but I don't think they ever go back to read it anyway....... I just feel good to do it, but since I'm not sure my msg will be received, I do it very seldom.

I always send a Mail to the Person who has chosen my Answer Best Answer to Thank Them.

It is proper, and polite, and yes, I do! I think I missed saying thanks once tonight, sorry, It's time for bed, I'll go back and fix it. I try to say thaks everytime, but I'm human, I might miss one now and again.

I say thanks for the best answer, and again for the 5 points, if I'm given all 5. I say thanks even if the question is left up to a vote, and only one or two people voted.

OK, I went back and corrected that.

It's just a nice thing to do, typical Rivers. It is important to me to be nice.

I do wonder however, how many people go back and look for comments on their own questions? To my knowledge, no one has ever come back and said "you're welcome." I take that back, once someone did.

I hope not because I've never thanked anyone for choosing me as best answer. In fact, I don't even know how to do it if I wanted to.

If the person allows email, and I have something I'd like to add to my answer (that pertains to the question), sometimes I do.

I don't think it's required or expected, though.

I always do but I do not think it is mandatory to do so! If someone does not, I do not consider it a breech of etiquette!

It is up to the person whether they think it is something they want to do or not.......an individual decision

Nice to do, in my opinion, ... but not rude or improper if someone chooses not to!

edit: You can do so by simply posting a comment after you receive BA.

I wish I knew how; I think the person will know that a best answer makes us smile.

No because you've already gave enough by answering the asker's question. . .

it might be proper but how will you do that? if sending message is off...? sometimes i put it in comment when i want to even say thanks to the asker
