My new iPod classic won't turn on, what do I do?

I have tried to restart it by holding the menu & center button, but that hasn't worked. I've hooked it up to my computer and a jack that makes it possible to listen to it through speakers, but it won't even turn on, just a black screen.

Can someone help me?

Update:

The hold button is off. And please read the rest of the question to those who just tell me to do something that I already said I tried.
