I'm a FRESHMAN! Do I have a chance at a lead role???
Ok so Bye Bye Birdie auditions for our high school's musical are coming up. Im a freshman but i have GREAT experience in theatre. BUT there's a bunch who do. Being young...I think i could pull off Kim nicely but I dont know how I'll compare. I've had 6 leading roles before but never in this school. IS THERE ANY HOPE? Should I even bother (im trying out no matter what) or just go on and admit to myslef that I'll be in chorus? ALSO ANY SONG SUGGESTIONS FOR AUDITIONS ARE WELCOMED!!!! THANK YOU
I dont mean anything rude to seniority. There's acyually almost 4 lead roles and maybe 3-4 good supporting roles and I will be COMPLETELY happy even if I'm backstage. Thank you for all your wonderful answers so far.

There's always hope.
But...that being said, seniority ALWAYS has some pull. And when you think about, it's fair, isn't it? They've worked so hard over the years, and many of the seniors will go onto college or to work and never be in a show again. Look at it from their point of view: When you're an upper classmen, will you want a freshmen beating you out for a role? The answer is a resounding no. Try your best and embrace whatever role you get. Speaking as someone who has had numerous leads, supporting roles, and ensemble roles, I can honestly say I enjoy playing whatever part so long as I am onstage.
Even if you're in the ensemble, it will be a great way to get your "foot in the door". If you perform to the best of your ability with a positive attitude (basically, don't be bitter, pouty, or whiny) you'll impress the director and your peers and they'll want to cast you in future productions.
Just from personal experience: I've had leads in community theater since I was nine, but I didn't make the first two shows I tried out for at my high school. The third show I tried out for I made! I was the only frosh girl and I had a small but funny part in an otherwise serious play. I got to know the director and the upperclassmen and I earned their respect.
Be yourself, be polite, and be positive, and you'll be surprised how many doors spring open for you! Good luck.

we have a lot of seniority at our school.
seniors would ALWAYS get the lead roles.
but last year a talented sophmore got Belle in Beauty and the Beast.
so i think that its always good to put yourself out there.
even if you dont get the lead maybe a teacher/the other kids will see how talented you are and will keep you in mind.
have confidence in your audition no matter if you think someone is better than you or something.
i would choose another song with the same vocal range
or a song that really shows off your voice well.
im sorry i dont have many suggestions
i dont know this show very well.
if shes an alto
Long as im here with you - Thoroughly Modern Millie (always works well for me.)
2nd soprano
don't rain of my parade - funny girl.
soprano
i dreamed a dream - Les mis
something from Phantom of the Opera

I'm not sure how things work at your school, but at mine there are no issues regarding age in casting unless it is a matter of experience. If the role calls for a younger looking actor then you should just go for it. If you have as much experience as you say then u shouldn't feel threatened by the other actors. :)

there is no injury in auditioning. there's a great hazard your director could desire to be searching for a woman he knows and has worked with. ( ie senior or junior) that does no longer recommend do no longer attempt nonetheless. this coach has a lot of great aspects, and in case you don't get belle, your director will nonetheless have heard you audition, and doubtless positioned you in yet another great function. (plus he gets to comprehend you greater advantageous the greater you preform with him, ie.auditioning for a much bigger section skill he thinks approximately you greater in the time of casting, for this reason, he will keep in mind you greater advantageous than he could in case you auditioned for refrain in basic terms) so, choose for it, in case you don't get belle, dont be coronary heart broken, such as you stated, you're in basic terms a freshman, thats skill theres many greater exhibits on your destiny. wreck a leg!

Richard Dale and Dave Hopkins asked the same question. You should read their answers side by side.

Of course you should.
If you REALLY do have a great voice and are really good at acting i think you should pull it off.
