How can I make it easier to plug and unplug my car block heater?
It is going to be 25 below zero tonight---I have a heavy duty extension cord to plug in my car. However, it is very difficult to plug in and almost impossible to unplug. What can I do that is safe. I bought a 2 prong grounding adapter and that worked great. However, on the box it states not to use outdoors, that the grounding tab must be fastened, and not to use where wet. None of these work in this situation. Any suggestions would be great. I tried another heavy duty extension cord which is necessary for outdoor use in snow when so cold. It was hard to unplug also. thanks, sam
Thanks---your help worked. I cleaned off the large round plug--I think the grounder with a little sand paper, and applied the grease you suggested. It was still such a tight fit---it was difficult for me to unplug in the morning when -25. So I bought one of those lighted 3 hold plugs and had my son force it on. It plugs easily into the extension cord. So I leave the lighted plug on my car--it is on so tightly it isn't going anywhere. No more problems plugging and unplugging--thanks.

Hi There!
You might want to try 1: see if the prongs coming from thecar are straight, if they are not straighten them, and if that does not work, but electrical grease, that comes ina little packet that is yellow from Canadian Tire, or anyother local garage or auto dealer...
to use the grease: apply the grease to the prongs that are coming out of the car, plug it in a couple of times, this will act as a lubercant, causing the pluging in and out sessions to be safe and easy.
hope that helped.... there are also in car lighter plugs that work just like a pregular plug you might want to check those out later on to
