Did South Carolina help or hurt Obama?
I am a strong fan of Barack Obama, although yet undecided about my vote next Tuesday in Florida's primary.
The South Carolina primary race helps and stirs my voting decision. I am impressed the Obama drew as many diverse votes there, but also bothered by the racism of that campaign. The last week seems to have stirred racial concerns about his electability, although he gained a reasonable precentage of the white vote. I get the impression from news coverage that the recent fighting about race in the campaign helped Hillary and Edwards - mainly on the issue of electability.
I don;' think Hillary can win a national election. She carries far too much baggage, and is overall not strong enough about the war, is too weak on a real national health plan, and reeks too much of the old Washington. Edwards would get my vote if I don't pick Obama.
But maybe South Carolina has some important messages.
Anyone up to reading them?
John Edwards has a strong populist message akin to Huckabee's - and both of them came up quite short in SC. I think that might be very meaningful in a state where poverty, job losses, and basic economic concerns dominate.
As for Obama's voting record, you have been very selective, First Responder. That is a critique easily leveled at ANY member of the Senate running.
I think a Democrat is MOST desirable after the long and ruinous reign of the GOP, and the liar Bush.
What worries me most about this primary is the emphasis on race. Obama mostly avoided that issue before. But it got nasty in SC. Did it make the issue more significant in the rest of the campaign?

The results of the South Carolina primary will hopefully give Barack plenty of momentum. Edwards is a good candidate, but he lacks support, and will not be running for president. I was in the same position as you, but after listening to Obama's acceptance speech, I am positive that he should be the one running for president. He proved that he can get a large percent of the population to vote for him even if people question his electability. I believe that he is the best candidate for presidency and has a much better chance at beating a republican than both Hillary and Edwards.

South Carolina was the first state primary where the black vote was a major number. Who they voted for was important since it would show the nation where the black vote was going. Anyone really think that South Carolina wouldn't go to Obama for that very reason??
Those who are looking at voting in a Democratic party need to look hard at the major contenders. Edwards is almost out & his 'message' is nothing but a pack of lies. Clinton as you have said has far too much baggage to win a national election. However she brought up an excellent point about Obama this week & it wasn't covered much because of the over-publicized 'race issue'. Obama's non-voting record. Voting 'present' on as many issues as he has done in the past or not bothering to vote at all says a lot about the person & little of it is positve or confident. Don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be voting for a candidate who's best vote on a majority of issues was 'present' rather than a firm yes or no.

South Carolina was a must win. Obama showed again he can get white black female male voters, because he can do the job and he offers new ideas. Plus he's not republican in drag. Never liked Edwards mainly person making million off of medical malpractice turns me totally off.

I agree that if Hillary gets the nomination we will end up with a Republican president. And after watching SiCKO I just might be ready to move to Canada. I don't think I can endure 4 more years of this mess.
