Can I remove ME and replace the OS to XP Home?

I have an older computer with a Pentium 4 processor that runs ME. Runs fine but is limited by the ME parameters. Can I remove or block of the ME operating system and install XP in Home or Office? I like everything else about the computer but the ME is obsolete. Can I do it, or should I have a true tech do it?

it depends on how you rate yourself technically speaking when it comes to computer softwares and hardwares.

but the answer is definitely yes. you could upgrade your ME with an XP but XP has some initial requirements like you need to have at least 800mb harddisk freespace, atleast a 128mb memory, and at least a P3 processor. if you think your hardware can handle XP, go for it.

now the question, are you an expert on migrating software operating system? if you'r in doubt, have a tech guy do it.

but to make things easier, if you plan to have a clean installation, back-up your documents, format your harddrive and then install a clean windows XP on your computer.

if you doubt anything else here i explain, don't do it yourself. have a tech guy do it.

    goodluck!

If a working laptop or laptop can run Vista it would run XP. XP comes with a good variety of drivers yet as quickly as he's put in XP he might desire to flow the individial hardware gadget manufacturers to verify in the event that they have as much as date drivers. before he does that however, he might desire to verify if the Vista "classic" subject fits him greater valuable than the default. a million. click initiate and open the administration Panel. 2. click visual allure and Personalization. 3. click Personalization. 4. click subject. 5. elect the domicile windows classic decision from the drop down menu and click ok He additionally should undergo in innovations that the subsequent laptop he gets would be working domicile windows 7 or probably domicile windows 8 (already being planned and stepped forward) the two considered one of which will look greater like Vista than the previous classic domicile windows. So, he might besides get used to Vista now or plan on holding those XP disks for an extremely long term.

You can do it, the first thing you would need to do is buy the XP OS, after that then you want to backup all of your dirvers for like your modem and ethernet and all the good stuff, then place the OS CD in the CD tray and boot up the computer, it will prompt you if you want to boot from the CD and you want to say yes, and from there just go through, delete ME and install XP, after it is all installed and up and running you need that CD that you backed up your drivers on, install the most needed drivers like the ones so you can get on the internet, and from there if you for got some driver you can go into your driver management screen thingy and find out which one you are missing (the ones with the question marks) after that find the drivers online and reinstall them, after that............enjoy XP and hate on Vista

Source(s): In a college course right now at this moment doing that exact same thing.

You should be able to run an upgrade XP disk, which would be relatively simple to install without having a tech. It's just a few clicks and a little while of waiting.

First back up your files and photos and music to Cd's then insert windows xp CD restart and do clean installations, let windows xp format the partition you get clean installation, that means all data on your computer will be gone, all you get after installations is windows xp that is why you should copy all important files to Cd's.

    Good luck.

You will need an upgrade version of Windows XP Home edition. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it yourself. I recommend backing up your important files though
