U can buy a USB Netwrok device that then allows you to connect to a normal router via a cat5 cable, or a USB wireless card to connect to it wirelessly.

it is possible but it will severely hamper the internet performance because the usb section will act like an hour glass effect as it cant handle much information at a time. Your modem/router should have come with an adaptor.

No - USB and ethernet are completely different. If would be like using a telephone line to get cable TV.
But you can connect a wireless router to your modem - both of them should have ethernet connections.

If you have a wireless router, why wouldn't you just get a USB wireless adapter and connect via wireless?
USB to Ethernet adapters certainly exist though I don't care for Tiger Direct, but they have a list of various adapters that do just that.

Newegg has some too and I prefer shopping there:

Although not ideal this is what you need.
Either order it online or go to best buy or radio shack and pick one up but as you can see it will run you about 30 bucks.
good luck

Get a network card or a wireless card for the laptop.

Yes, we got ours from Carphone Warehouse. Had to pay £20 first and it came by post.
