a 1997 Honda NSX vs. a 1997 Toyota Supra TT (both stock ... welll ... alomost)?

I recently bought a 1997 Honda NSX (the only upgrade its got is a cold air intake) which is in my opinion is an excellent car (if I had to choose between a ZO6 or an NSX I'd still have the NSX), its balanced, it ride excellent, the gear box is amazing, its got a very comfortable and decent interior, etc... but my friend keeps criticizing me that I've bought the wrong car, he wanted me to buy a Supra TT instead and I'll be honest I do not like the way the Supra looks.

and furthermore the Supra Twin Turbo has 326 bhp where as my NSX has 290 bhp (280 bhp originally, I wasted so much cash at the dyno just to find out that I've increased another 10 horses .. Idiot? yep very much) but in a straight the Supra is still kinda slower to the NSX in terms of top speed and acceleration.

my question is that can anybody tell me a few advantages and dis-advantages of the Supra TT over my car before I die due to his constant criticism, I am familiar with how good the 2JZ-GTE Supra TT engine is ...

Among the Japanese "280ps" machines the Supra is known as the torque king, and little other than that. It never held the crown of fastest JDM during its production period. Instead of looking at acceleration times and skidpad G's or other individual quantitative measurements you should be looking at track times to get the idea of cumulative performance taking the whole car into account. The NSX is consistently a winner against the Supra on both Japanese domestic tracks as well as the Nurburgring. Your 3.2L NSX is one of the best acheivements of the Japanese automotive industry and is respected not only in Asia but also in the Americas and in Europe. The same really cannot be said of the Supra.

Although the Supra is a nice car it never really challenged Ferarri or Porsche during its heyday like the NSX did. It wasn't nearly as technologically advanced either and certainly did not have the scope and caliber of owners like the NSX - Aryton Senna, Alex Zanardi, Eddie Jordan, Rick Mears, Gordon Murray, Keichi Tsuchiya, Bobby Rahal, Paul Tracy, Jimmy Vasser, Jenson Button, and more.

I don't want to drag on for too long, but I think you let your friend get to you when you shouldn't have. You own a superior car to the Supra and there is little any true car enthusiast can do to prove otherwise.

If you could have gotten both cars for the same price then you should have gone with the Supra TT. I am a muscle car guy so I am not bias twords either car, I like both and respect both equally. A very common error I see people write about when they talk about the supra is that it is not much of a track car and is made more for straight ahead speed. This is very untrue. The supra is absolutely a track car, even compared to todays cars it can handle better then almost all of them. On the skid pad (which is the best judge of handling) the Supra turns out 0.96g's all day long and has done as well as 0.99g's while the NSX turns out 0.91 to 0.93g's. As far as stock straight ahead speed the NSX is quicker then the Supra, the NSX usually does around 13.1-13.3 in the 1/4 while the Supra is usually around 13.4-13.6. Now the big advantag the Supra has is that its engine is bulletproof. Its bottom is awesome, the supra's engine is capable of supporting up to and over 1000hp without worry of killing the engine. While the NSX has a good engine, it reaches its limits at around 500-600hp, anything more then that and you are going to destroy your engine. I will leave you a link below that has the 1/4 mile times for both cars and a link for the skid pad results. As far as looks go, its just personal preference. I personally like the NSX's looks a little better, but I think both look great. The supra does have the advantage of having rear seats. If you are not planning to do any mods what so ever and leaving either car completely stock then as far as straight line speed the NSX gets the nod, as far as track speed or handling goes the Supra gets the nod. If you are going to modify the car though, then the Supra absolutely gets the nod in hp, speed, acceleration, and handling. The Supra is one of the best cars to modify in existance. The final consideration is price though, if you wanted to get a 1997 supra with 50k miles on it you are going to spend at least $50,000 while a 1997 NSX with 50k miles on it would be less expensive I believe, but I am not sure on that one. Everything other then that is fact, the price is just an estimate. I just wanted to throw the facts out there, everyone can make there own decision based on the facts. If it were me, I would go with the supra because I like having 4 seats, and I am a big modifications guy. I personally own a 2004 cobra mustang with 535rwhp and 555rwtq and I spend almost all of my free time at either the tracks or at my mod shop. If I were to get the NSX instead of a supra though, I deffinately would not be disapointed, the NSX is still one bad a@# car, it looks absolutely killer, and can be made to be a very impressive track car.

im a big .. well a super fan of the 2jz.... and some what of the nsx.. if you're just comparing the two it really depends on how you look at it. lets say car to car, both non modified with out the price of money, and then both modified as in all show and no go, and then there is the all go all show, because of course if you're car is fast, its gotta look nice, thats a given.

when compared stock to stock, hands down the nsx, and this is coming from a supra lover.. the nsx is more of a track, circuit car as compared to that of a supra which is mainly used for drag and mad power. dont get me wrong the supra is one perfect machine, but the weight of the nsx distribution is way closer to of a 50/50. the supra might have more power, but that doesnt really kick in til high gears lets say 4th. as to the nsx might have a little less, but the lightness of the car allows it to get up to speed quicker lets say 1st to 3rd.

if you're talking about look wise, stock to stock, that would have to be a hard one for me, because both cars would look nice with some wheels.

now if you're talking about money and fast cars wise, im not sure how much you paid for your car, maybe i would say in the high 30's to 40's. you could of gotton yourself a supra for 20 grand and spend another 20 grand, and you have yourself pretty much a 600 to 800 horse power monster doing 10's in the quater mile. and have only spent about the same of the price you paid for the nsx. guess the only way to find out is to go on you tube. type in supra vs...... and you'll see ... then type in nsx vs.... and then you'll know from there if you spent your money wisely... oh just google it and look at some pictures too... make sure you look up brad d's supra, and ryan woon's too as well... spend some time on youtube... check out some videos.... and if you should change your mind, nsx's hold valve thats for damn sure, sell it... good luck

ps i found the videos for you... make sure you watch all of them.. aahhaha oh and dont forget this is a daily driver...DAILY DRIVER..meaning registered to be on the streets.... mostly about 95 percent of all drag cars are only for the drag strips, meaning you would never see it on the streets legally... hahah enjoy

The NSX does have a higher top speed.

The NSX is lighter and more aerodynamic.

    The NSX is more luxurious.

    The NSX has better handling.

    The NSX is more reliable.

The NSX is more comfortable and has a quieter ride.

The NSX has a better resale value.

    The NSX looks much better.

I think you'll be much happier with the brand new audi. The supra will cause you to get tickets constantly and it won't have a luxurious feel like the audi. Also because the audi is new it simple will run and drive better :)

Your car has near-zero ricer-idiot stigma.

Your car isn't the butt of jokes related to that.

    Your car looks cooler.

It's your money, your car, and your choice.
