Whenever I open Yahoo messenger, explorer crashes and flickers constantly until I close messenger. I am not signed in when this happens. I've tried reinstalling several times and now I don't know what to do.

Try to repair windows install. Insert windows install cd and select the repair install option from the setup program after it loads.
