What's a good resource for a physicist trying to learn basic biology?
Next week I am helping a high school student with math, but his mother also wants me to try to assist with his biology. I told them the only thing I know about biology is wild mushrooms but they still imagine I can help.
I don't think I can be very helpful but I'm still willing to try to learn a few general ideas to get me off the ground at least. Can anyone suggest some online resources for me?
I know it's impossible for me to become some sort of expert overnight. What I was hoping for was a good way for me to help the kid help himself do better.
His teacher emailed me a sketch of her lesson plans, so I can simply search on line for info on each topic on my own. But if some of you know of better than average resources I will start with those.

the link below is by far the best online resource I know of but a bit heavy on the biochemistry and molecular biology side - unfortunately you need a subscription but maybe a free trial is avaiable

Just because you know one subject well, people assume you know everything. Are you being paid? If this is a freebie, just help the kid with math and call it a day. If she could, the mother would probably have you doing the laundry. If she says anything rude, just tell her you're taking the kid to a strip club for his first biology lesson.

Get real how can you be expected to teach something you don't even know about. I mean those parents don't seem to make sense at all.
