How do websites get paid?

I am in my family room thinking about how people who own web sites get paid?

    Get paid by the people that advertise on the site

    They charge for all the advertising banners you see on the webpages. Getting insane traffic that makes advertisers want to use your site though is key. Yahoo though apparently has figured out the secret.

    44.6 billion, now that is alot of chowder to turn down.

    1) some sites get paid soley by advertisements

    2) some sites charge members to "join" and pay a monthly fee
