Upgrading to receiver with True-HD & DTS HD.........?

My blu-ray can decode these by bitstream. Can I buy any receiver with HDMI or does it have to specify that it can support True-HD & DTS HD? Also, how do I know if my current speakers & subwoofer will work with the new receiver? Recommendations on a specific receiver also appreciated.

The receiver must be an HDMI 1.3 compliant receiver. One that can receive bitstreamed audio and decode it to the new high definition codecs like True-HD and DTS MA.

The new Onkyos (605, 705, 805, 875) have been well received. Although some users have complained of a lip-sync issue. They provide a good deal at their price point. You can find the 605 for very cheap online. If you can afford the 805 I'd suggest getting it instead.

I'm partial to the Denons (I have one). Try the 2808CI or 3808CI.

Your speakers and subwoofers should have no problem with the new receivers.

You don't necessarily have to buy a receiver with True HD, but it does help in keeping with the latest technology for your HDTV.

Any receiver that has HDMI should suffice far as supporting your HDTV for surround sound, but getting the latest technology has a cost, usually higher until the technology filters down to the masses and becomes common place.
