What is normal in so far as mental health is concerned?

Psychologists either refuse to or can't define what a "normal person" is when asked so as to have a standard for a behavioral goal. Do you think a 4-5 year old infant, before he/she knew anything about God, politics, government or the vicissitudes of human interactions would be such a standard for NORMAL?

Update:

Edit: Such a standard would mean that most educted adults in most world societies are abnormal and a society that is normal would be a childlike ( not childish) society. It is a slap at current civilizations. (see Freud's "Civilization and its' discontents".).

Update 2:

Edit: after 5 days. My reason for assuming this position is because I was told by a psychiatric nurse that a person's basic personality is formed by the time they are 5 and to change it thereafter is vey hard. Mental disease is due to attempts by society to change it.

Honestly, it just depends. Some children are born with ADD or some type of disfunction.....in the eyes of scoiety they aren't normal...but they can be over time. Some kids are born mentally retarded....it just depends. Just because a kid is born with 5 fingers and 5 toes doesnt mean that they are "normal".....some kids grow up to have disorders......

Personally, I don't think ALL 4-5 year olds are NORMAL but I think most can be....at such a young age its hard to be corrupted, so if they appear to be normal and dont act unreasonable, id think yes, they are a normal kid......

I don't think any doctor would be able to or want to say just what is normal. When I was young there was no such thing as add in kids. They were just a little hyper and when you had a kid like that you would just give them a bunch more stuff to do and basically try to wear them out with physical activity. I also believe that everyone in this world is psychotic at some time in there life, like when something traumatic happens. remember how crazed you were as a teen and lost your first love. That is normal, but you do go pretty crazy, at least for a while. So my answer in short is normal is a term that can not be defined.

"I KNOW"! ONLY AN INSANE PERSON CAN BELIEVE IN HIMSELF,IN THE FACE OF INFINITE AWARENESS, AND THEREFORE THE CONCEPT OF SANITY IS A NECESSARY DELUSION, AS A STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL VEHICLE, FOR INSANE PEOPLE, TO STORE THEIR RATIONALITIES. THESE RATIONALITIES ARE ALWAYS BASED IN THE MOST COMMON OF TRAITS, AMONG A SINGLE SPECIES.

THIS I CALL THE CENTER OF THE ONION.

ARE YOU SANE? (IF YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE SANE THEN YOU ARE INSANE, AND THIS IS COMMON TO EVERYONE IN THE SPECIES)!

IS THIS NORMAL? (REPRESENTATIVE OF THE MASS COMMONALITY)? (IF YOU ARE INSANE WITH THE DELUSION YOU ARE SANE, THEN YOU ARE IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE MASS COMMONALITY, AND THEREFORE YOU ARE INSANELY NORMAL)!

("I am sane, or "SO I BELIEVE"")! I am delusional, and insane, so therefore normal! From this condition, everything makes sense, even the unknown, which also reveals itself upon discovery of it's very existence, because it is already in an "ENVIRONMENTAL CONTEXT"!

    NORMAL IS NOT ALWAYS BEST.
