Flakey Dell Laptop?
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. Two weird things are happening with it -
1. The mouse has a mind of it's own. Sometimes the mouse just freezes for anywhere from a couple seconds to 30-45 seconds, then works normal again.
2. Other problem is that it sometimes boots to a blank (black) screen with just a rectangular white shape blinking on and off in the upper right corner. If I boot it into safe mode or diagnostic mode then reboot normal it will come up normally so far. The problem is intermittent, so getting it to occur with regularity is impossible. When this happens the Windows Vista splash screen doesn't appear, just the Dell splash screen, then nothing.
Anyone else having these kinds of issues?

You might've gotten a bad computer. I would take it back and exchange it to the store you bought it from. If i may suggest an Acer. They are awesome. Dell computers ARE NOT, whether they be a laptop or a desktop.

My Gateway laptop with vista did this, and I sent it back to the manufacturer through Best Buy. Dell has a 1 yr. warranty, and I wouldn't mess around. Take it back with your receipt after backing up all your data. Usually you will have 14 days to return an item and exchange it for another when it comes to computers. If it's been longer than 14 days, they will have to mail it back to the manufacturer, which will suck, but at least you caught this within the warranty period, otherwise you would be out of luck. Oh, and good luck :)

Since your laptop is still new & under warranty, it is best to send back to where you purchased it for a warranty repair. I think this is the best solution as any unauthorized repairs will caused the warranty to be void.
