Why are people reading "A New Earth" by Tolle?
Why are people reading this book?
When they can read the Bible and pray to God to find out what their purpose is in life, why read Tolle's book?
NOTE: If you don't believe in God, this question is NOT directed at you. Thanks.
Maureen, my mind is open and so is my heart. I find it interesting you seem to jump to conclusions so quickly thinking I haven't read it.
Perhaps you are the one that needs to open her heart and her mind and not believe some of the junk out there. I'm not naive, are you?
Joey "why close myself" to the experience of something that leads me down the wrong path? Well, I guess because I know one has to be discerning in this world and not gullible.
Do you "open yourself" to everything that is written?

Well, i'm a Christian, and I'd like to read it. See what it is about.
Yes, the Bible is full of wisdom, but I have many many books on other things that I find inspiration in.
The Bible doesn't say "Thou shalt not read any other books but this one"

Are you reading this book? If not, how can you even ask this question. If you have, apparently it is too challenging for you to grasp it's message. Which is understandable because it is very deep.
It is like going to grade school. You start at grade l, and work your way up, through high school and then through college. Each grade teaches you something, and your knowledge is increased as you go up grade by grade.
A New Earth is very, very interesting and it in no way is negative towards Jesus, or the bible. That is why I think you have not even read it. Tolle quotes the bible a lot, and Jesus.
For those that are always seeking, investigating, interested in other people's opinion, this is the book for them.
I believe in "God", probably in a different way than you do, ;but there is always more to learn, more to be aware of and more to understand.
I find this book intriguing and interesting and am learning a lot about "my purpose in life".
Open your mind and it will open your heart.

For every person in the world, there is a different way to find God. If prayer is the way that works for you than that's great. Some find the best time to learn about their purpose is through being out in nature, others find that same guidance in church, while still others find it observing their children. The New Earth book helps to guide people to be able to recognize their potential and to tune into life at the right moment. Maybe you don't need it, but why close yourself to an experience that could be more beneficial than you ever imagined?

That is a great question. The reason is the same as why people read Buddhist Bible
by Dwight Goddard, or the Bhagavad gita. It has never been my place or anyone elses to close the door on other perspectives, except of course for yourself, if you so choose.
"A New Earth" is close in the teachings of the Bhuddist path to enlightenment and how they relate with God.
If you read it you might even find some similarities with Paul's struggle throughout and his battle with his own ego, his flesh.
It teaches to see yourself in a more objective way without condemnation or attachment to our own dramas, and conditioned perceptions to fully appreciate the creator and life without our fleshly attachments getting in the way.
The teachings of Bhuddism are not anti-christian. They are the teachings of peace, inner peace and oneness, actually quite similar to what Jesus taught.
The message leads to freedom from materialism, loving God, and loving and helping your fellow man. The message is missing what Christians consider the most important part of all. For me personally it helps me to accept the most important message on the deepest of levels, :CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS.
Ok. Now what. Well, we need to love and heal ourselves and the planet through the holy spirit that has been freely given to us.
What stands in the way?
Ourselves. Our stubbornness. Our ego. Our sinfulness. Our pride. Our anger.
The light is always shining bright and the kingdom is to be found within.

I know God and I also know that I need him I'm not perfect, in a perfect world people would read the bible however they don't but that doesn't change the fact that Christ died for the non believer as well as the believer! So this would also be the case with judge not least THE be judged.
All things created go backto God All things and people will be judged by him Pray for thr non believer as you would have God save you All matters will be delt with by God No one else has this kind of authority God has the first word and he will most certainly have the last..... We are to improve our selves with him not convict others. Thank you for your question Sincerely Tony Burke

I read it because it is full of simple to understand wisdom. It offers hope and freedom from the insane condition we as humans find ourselves.
Read it and make up your own mind.

Tolle has much to say, and I find his writing to be so wise though presented so simply. I suppose there is genius in simplicity.
