Say, for example, that only 6% of your statistics class scored better than you on the next test. This says nothing about your score compared to its maximum, but only your performance ranking throughout the class. That means that 6% are above you and 94% are below you, score-wise. This places you in the 94th percentile

A percentile is a ranking that tells you that you did better than a certain percentage of people involved.
For example, a 95 percentile means you did better than 95 % of the people involved.

Percentile means the same thing as percent (literally means per 100). You just have to convert your number to a fraction with a denominator of 100.
Ex: 0.63 = 63/100 = 63% = percentile
